Kick-Off Event Promoting Dance, Music and Drama to be Held at East Northport Barnes & Noble
GREENLAWN, NY — The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts is introducing a new summer theater arts camp program for children between the ages of three and twelve. Children will learn the basics of drama techniques, such as dance, music and acting as they enjoy retelling stories from popular, age appropriate musicals and literary works. In addition to courses about the performing arts and how to be an entertainer, there will also be outdoor activities and arts and crafts sessions. Two-, four- and six-week, half- and full-day options are available from July 10 through August 18 at The First Presbyterian Church, located at 497 Pulaski Road in Greenlawn, New York.

The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts is a non-profit organization devoted to providing exemplary instruction in the theater arts by helping children and teenagers develop a sense of cultural awareness and appreciation for the performing arts. The center’s mission is to provide a place for adolescents to learn about dance, music and drama while developing communication, social and problem-solving skills. Attendees will make lifelong friends and build their confidence, while learning, growing and becoming more well-rounded citizens for the future.

The literary and theatrical works that will be featured during the Summer Programs include, The Very Hungry CaterpillarThe Little Red Hen, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and The Kissing Hand for the three-to-five-year-old program. In the six-to-eight-year-old sessions, campers will enjoy learning elements of The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Peter Pan. Finally, the preteens, ages nine-to-12, will revel in the dramatics of Mary Poppins, Annie and Grease.

“We are excited to get our summer program started and are looking forward to meeting all the wonderful children and their families who will be participating,” says Stella Roberg, CEO of The Marcus Center.  “We started this Marcus Center as a means of educating younger generations about the performing arts and its benefits to society. Plus, what child doesn’t already love to dress up and play different roles? I think everyone is really going to love this summer program!”

In addition to the new camp program, The Marcus Center is collaborating with Barnes & Noble of East Northport for a children’s storytelling event on Friday, June 23 at 7 p.m.  at 4000 Jericho Turnpike, East Northport, New York. This free event is open to all families, with children ranging from toddler to teens, who are interested in literary genres such as dance, music and drama. There will also be arts and crafts and an interactive dance instruction session.

“Our storytelling event is the perfect way to kick-off our summer camp program and get the kids excited about the performing arts,” adds Ms. Roberg. “We can’t wait to see everyone there.”

The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts Summer Program is being held at The First Presbyterian Church, 497 Pulaski Road in Greenlawn, New York.
