Beware of Experts - They ruin planets!

It occurred to me today that for a planet that is by and large run by experts we seem to be in a sorry state of affairs, sufficiently so, I now bring into question the wisdom of allowing experts to influence human activity and direction.

It may be time for a paradigm shift in how we select our leadership – three strikes and out could be the order of today.

Whether I look at politics, the sciences, economy, education or any other facet of human endeavor I see a commonality that is striking – almost anything guided by experts is in total disarray and shambles.

One would have hoped that a past 400 years of expert led guidance would have humanity at a place of enviable advantage, a world of calm, peaceful, productive and idyllic station, both for humanity the ecology and all earth bound lifeforms–instead I see a world staggering from expert induced calamity to expert guided catastrophe day after day, we now have a world in total disarray.

There is no question that so called expert leadership has prevailed since such time as the mechanisms of “receiving qualification” became manifest in the realm of academia… with the advent of structured education systems and iron clad standards of academic achievement, leadership by expert has replaced leadership by experience. We are now subjects to bookworm expertise with no underpinning of reality.

I am supposing in the olden days leadership came from the individuals whom excelled in a particular activity, the guy or gal that consistently bought home the meat earned a reputation in the field and so earned respect as a leader in the matter of provisioning. In modern times it is possible to become a renowned expert without ever performing any of the practical steps needed to accomplish a goal successfully, could this phenomena be the mechanism of demise for modern humanity?

Have we in fact capitulated our future to paper backed academic experts who now have a lock on destiny–destiny of our planet and all residents of it? Should this state of affairs be condoned or even tolerated?

Track record easily shows us that the crop of self-prescribed experts who became our default leadership component has miserable conclusion and outcome with dull monotonous regularity.

I could site a thousand examples of things gone horribly wrong when paper experts are at the helm.

- Economic meltdown – Experts “We did not see it coming.”
- Katrina type catastrophe – Experts “We could never have foreseen these events.”
- Gulf Oil Spill – Experts “We did not think that we would ever need a plan for this.”
- And so on and so forth… such “expert” retorts are provided daily.

The list could go on and on, no field is exempt, we seem to be in a cycle of apology as ill-conceived travesty after short-sighted stupidity emanates from our scientific or political “expert” leadership groups.

The strange thing for me is the fact that regular folks have no trouble at all “seeing it coming,” whatever the impending disaster turns out to be, it is only the experts that seem stunned by inevitable negative result.

Perhaps it is time to fall back to common sense and experience and put the boots to so called experts who command the system but not our respect.

In any event I have a very unsettling feeling these days when I hear the term “expert.”
