Harold Camping has been broadcasting his Doomsday predictions around the world

The end of the world is nigh; 21 May, to be precise. That’s the date when Harold Camping, a preacher from Oakland, California, is confidently predicting the Second Coming of the Lord. At about 6pm, he reckons 2 per cent of the world’s population will be immediately “raptured” to Heaven; the rest of us will get sent straight to the Other Place.

If Mr Camping were speaking from any normal pulpit, it would be easy to dismiss him as just another religious eccentric wrongly calling the apocalypse. But thanks to this elderly man’s ubiquity, on America’s airwaves and billboards, his unlikely Doomsday message is almost impossible to ignore.

Every day Mr Camping, an 89-year-old former civil engineer, speaks to his followers via the Family Radio Network, a religious broadcasting organisation funded entirely by donations from listeners. Such is their generosity (assets total $120m) that his network now owns 66 stations in the US alone.

“21 May, around 6pm, to be precise”

Actually that is not precise at all unless you specify a location. It is not 6PM all over the world at the same time.

Got nay idea where Jesus is going to show up at so I can try to get an autograph?

The day or the hour is not known. Even the Cherubs around the throne do not no the day or the hour. Did this guy forget his meds recently? There was a few close ones back in the Summer of 08 and 09 where the whole slar system could have been wiped out. Of course no one saw it coming back then either. However on the lighter side. I would appreciate it if this man’s timing was impecable as not to put off the secong coming, but yet encourage it.

You know religions (sponsored by the govt) have made such a farce out of the bible, and for that reason people don’t read it. Sorry bout that.

(Matthew 24:36-42) 36 “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.

37 For just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. 38 For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; 39 and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken along and the other be abandoned; 41 two women will be grinding at the hand mill: one will be taken along and the other be abandoned.

42 Keep on the watch, therefore, because YOU do not know on what day YOUR Lord is coming.”

“YOU do not know on what day YOUR Lord is coming”

You make it sound as if YOU are expecting someone to come and make things right for you?

“You know religions (sponsored by the govt) have made such a farce out of the bible”

Not only government sponsored religions, but under educated individuals have also made a farce of the Bible by claiming to understand it. YOUR own statement for instance suggests that you believe that the state sponsored Bible predicts that YOUR LORD is coming some day; what ever that may mean to you.

Guess what, if others can be wrong about interpreting what that book says, so can you. There is an outside chance that you are buying into a legend that is not going to come to pass, yet YOU want to criticize others for THEIR misunderstandings.

Many Christians play the ‘they are wrong but we are correct card’ to give them that People of God feeling that allows them to look down on others.

        “reason people don’t read it.”

You imply that others don’t read it but that you do, and that you understand it better than others do. If you are a New Testament Christian, I suggest that you re-read the parts about loving your neighbor as your self, and stop trying to find ways of making you feel superior to others.

Crying wolf every decade for 1,500 years is pathetic.

I wish God would strike only these crazy asses dead on the day of their false predictions.

        Now that would be cool.
