"Mad Scientist" - There Is a Link between Genius and Insanity

For decades I have wondered about the sanity of implementing scientific discovery thwart with either obvious or implied catastrophic result, a prevalent category judging by result. 

The deadly effect is often referred to as “unintended consequence” and is shrugged off as a natural “Oops” of the “progress” process.
 

It seems in 2012 the world is awash and ablaze with the aftermath of ill-advised, reckless, wanton and ultimately catastrophic “progress” aftermath courtesy of science and their benefactors – corporate interests and their enablers in combination with government approval agencies.
 

You could be forgiven if you suspect a well orchestrated unholy alliance between science, corporate interest and government, who as a team have unleashed horrendous environmental catastrophe upon the planet. 

The forms of industrial effluent and wastes are far too many to list as are the ailments and debilitating effects on the environment in general and life in particular in the matter of insane “progress.”

Since 1945 there have been over 2000 atmospheric nuclear explosion tests supplemented by various nuclear facility accidents which have spewed deadly nuclear fallout around the planet. Japan is currently maintaining this life destroying flow by way of its multi nuclear facility meltdown.
 

Underneath this nuclear travesty is a myriad of lessor by degree but no less deadly streams of industrial effluent continuously poisoning  the planets food, air and water. Some argue the conditions are entirely the fault of the  general population who adopted and used these deadly fruits of scientific endeavor.
 

While perhaps true in concept… ALL these root causes of current hazard were supposedly checked, tested and certified as safe by our employed guardians – our governance agencies.
It turns out ALL risk has been downloaded to the unsuspecting masses. 

The mistake was in trusting the elected and appointed governance representation – perhaps it is time to withdraw this trust.

The combination of “mad science” + “mad elitist greed” + “mad power grabbing” is indeed the deadly combination threatening the planet today… not my or your insignificant natural carbon output.

In my book “progress” is about betterment–not degradation. I believe that statement to represent sanity. It is an unconditional statement and does not allow for unmitigated risk-period!

Science is now acknowledging an insane aspect within their ranks. Perhaps now we have a clue concerning the phenomena of insane approaches….

Scientists Find Truth in “Mad Scientist” Stereotype: There Is a Link between Genius and Insanity

Genius and insanity may actually go together, according to scientists who found that mental illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are often found in highly creative and intelligent people.

“The notion of a ‘tortured genius’ or ‘mad scientist’ may be more than a romantic aberration,” says the World Science Fair. “Research shows that bipolar disorder and schizophrenia correlate with high creativity and intelligence, raising tantalizing questions: What role does environment play in the path to mental illness?”

Scientists wonder whether the mental disorders are being positively selected for in the gene pool, and if there is actually a line between gift and deficit.

I wonder about their judgment on our behalf!
