Nuclear headache: What to do with 65,000 tons of spent fuel?

The most inconvenient truth I am aware of, “Spent yet lethal nuclear waste has no known (safe) disposal solution!”

After 60 years of accumulating 65,000 Tons or more of this deadly waste material in the USA alone, science is still as stupefied and bemused at how to neutralize their nuclear toxic waste and effluent…

This is yet another episode in the ongoing “death by science saga” — documented, irrefutable evidence of… “Wanton and destructive science gone wrong.”

To call the situation a travesty is literally the understatement of the centuries.

Could it be someone is finally realizing the absolute insanity of not addressing the situation, albeit in a token fashion?

In a blow to the nuclear energy industry, a federal appeals court on Friday threw out a rule allowing plants to store spent nuclear fuel on-site for decades after they’ve closed, and ordered regulators to study the risks involved with that storage — 65,000 tons now spread across the country, and growing at 2,000 tons a year.  

Although this small and token gesture is pitiful in relation to the underlying problem it is a tiny step in the right direction. For this I give a passing nod of acknowledgement to.

The planet is literally seeded with almost untold nuclear waste time-bombs… all but guaranteed to detonate at some point in time.

So called containment facilities which were supposed to be a temporary work-around solution until a bright scientist in the future would come forth with a viable process to nullify the deadly and heinous spawn of their previous poorly conceived, ill-advised and insane implementation of “nuclear energy” –

These so-called “temporary” containment solutions are still in place and expanding rapidly.

This after 60 years has slipped by.

How is nuclear energy used to produce electricity?

Nuclear energy is a brutally expensive and unsupportable way to boil water to make steam to drive a century old technology called a steam turbine in order to create electricity.

This is likely the quintessential example of taking a sledge hammer to squish a gnat, but with an unintended consequence of earth obliteration as a bonus. How stupid can stupid get?

Then we have this….

Plutonium Waste Triples – Counting Error

 It is not often that something increases in size just by counting it properly, but apparently highly radioactive waste increased 300% in the last audit.

My inspiration is this, why don’t we swap the people counting money with the people who have been counting plutonium? In theory all of the plutonium would disappear and we would all be three times richer!

If we cannot manage live nuclear facilities, what hope is there for managing the ever growing deadly waste inventories expelled from them?

Any basic form of gain -v- risk analysis would shut them all down arbitrarily.

There are no “small” or irrelevant nuclear incidents–they are all guaranteed to threaten life sustainability – period!

Even though many advocate continuing down this certain path of decimation, surely common sense tells us it is shear madness and should be universally stifled–the sooner the better.

Knowing how greed always supersedes public well-being and safety and being somewhat of a realist, I doubt anyone of us will live long enough to witness the dawning of an age of “progress” bereft of horrendous consequence… perhaps science after-all is said and done will claim depopulation of the planet as their greatest achievement.

Progress is supposed to be about “betterment” is it not?
