Sun experiences uptick in activity - X Flares increasing.

Periodically I document solar activity.

As many of you know–I am of the mind that Electric Magnetic Impulse (EMP) is… in my estimation the most probable risk to modern society in that the potential impact of a large enough emission could collapse our power grid, distribution system and damage sensitive electronic components.

Mass communications capability would also be disrupted if not destroyed.

For these reasons it is advisable to be aware of ongoing solar activity.

Recent solar activity highlights very real danger from solar super-storms  

Last week, the Sun erupted 4 X-class flares within the space of just a few days, which is a dramatic upturn in activity for the Sun, which had not erupted a single X-flare all year until last week’s 4-flare salvo. Result: a series of solar storms hitting the Earth and aurora over unusually Southern latitudes.

Now, with the Sun’s increased activity, many experts are pondering what could happen in the event of a solar super-storm.

Regrettably, the specter of a regional disaster resulting from extreme power and communications loss is not a new prospect, it has been well known since the now famous Carrington event of the 1800′s.

Unfortunately our laggard governance has failed to respond to pleas from informed sources, scientists and disaster avoidance agencies in particular. The net result is… we are vulnerable and exposed to Coronal Mass Ejection with resulting Electro Magnetic Pulse incursion.

Required hardening of power and communications equipment has not been addressed.

This suggests the common citizen is very much on their own should such an event occur.

My suggestion is to review survival strategies based on worst case scenario, plan for the worst and hope for the best.

Remember, this is not about being fearful, it is about embedding possibilities in your mind for the express purpose of formulating contingency planning for you are yours. Survival is very possible, remember only a 100 years ago, not having electricity was not a prerequisite for survival. Inconvenient yes, fatal, not necessarily if you have the right mindset and a penchant for self-preservation.

Many will be victims–but as with all natural events… circumstance of location and disposition was the deciding factor.

Disaster avoidance is always preferable to disaster recovery.
