Christian Women Beaten and Humiliated by Group of Muslim Men

PAKISTAN Kasur: LEAD has reported to VOP that another shocking case has surfaced in a village of District Kasur where Christians were abused by Muslims.

Three Christian women Arshad Bibi, Sajida and Saruyia were beatened by armed Muslim men who entered their home while they were sleeping at around 11:00pm, after scaling the boundary wall. Their husbands were not home at the time of the invasion.

Sadiq Masih-age 73 and his wife Bibi Rani-age 70, the women’s in-laws, were present when the attacker’s invaded the home. According to their mother-in-law, they were looking for her sons. When they found none of them home, they started abusing her daughters-in-law. After beating them up, the men dragged them outside. Their shirts were torn in the process, exposing their bodies and humiliating them publicly, she said.

Not a single witness had enough courage to try and save the women from the torture.

The men have been identified as Muhammad Abrahim, Muhammad Rafique, their sons-Munir, Ahmad, Asif, Ahmad, Abid, Usman, Waseem, Waqas and Shabir of the village Sereser Chak No.21. Three others also involved, remain unknown.

The husband of one of the women, Shoukat Masih said,

“Recently, goats owned by the Christian family entered the field of the Muslim land owners. The animals damaged some saplings on their property and they locked them up,” said Shoukat Masih.  He said he had had an argument with Muhammad Munir, Ibrahim’s son, when he locked his goats in a cattle shed and refused to return them.

Shoukat, his brothers and sister-in-law went to them and requested they release their goats. He said he had told Munir off when he pushed his sister-in-law.  “Munir cursed me and slapped me many times in the face. I then slapped him. He was furious, saying how dare a Christian slap me,” said Shoukat. Elders of the area intervened and persuaded Munir to return the goats.

“On June 2, they blocked the way of my brother, Shoukat when he was going to work. At this point an argument ensued and they exchanged heated words.  This incident happened in front of many witnesses. ” Masih said. They were extremely angry that a Christian would dare to yell at them in a loud voice. (Muslims consider Christians of a lower class) This is what led to the attack—REVENGE.  They came looking for the men, but abused the women while we were at work. They also tortured our 73 year old father and wounding one of his legs”, said Boota Masih.

“In the morning of June 3, along with Rev.Saleem Gill, of the DS Pattoki Church of Pakistan, we contacted the SHO Pattoki. He did not bother to hear our request and rejected to receive our complaint.” That same evening, some police officials raided at our home along with the Muslim Landlords and threatened to involve us in a criminal case,” told Shoukat Masih.

On 4 June,2013 -Rev. Saleem Gill informed Advocate Sardar Mushtaq Gill, National Director of LEAD, and ask him to help the persecuted family and give them legal aid in this case.

The LEAD Director went to the village and met the family and got information regarding the case. He then went to DSP Pattoki to register the FIR against the alleged accused who had attacked and publicly made naked the Christians women. He also recorded a protest along with the victimized family.

The FIR No.231/13 has been registered against the alleged Muslims at Police Station Sadar Pattoki under Sections 452,354,337/FI,149,148 of PPC.

The accused are now threatening the Christian family with the help of Police and also registered FIR No.234/13 under Sections 440,379,148,149 of PPC. This is all to common when a Christian files a report against Muslims in Pakistan. They are often pressured by the accused with help from the police to withdrawl their complaint! Another reason why many incidents go unreported and the abuse continues.

There are other Christians who said that they too are often being threatened and treated badly and inhumanely by these Muslims Landlords. They said to Advocate Sardar Mushtaq Gill that they were poor and that’s why they were treated like animals.

The Legal Evangelical Association Development (LEAD) organisation has been asking for much needed financial and moral support to continue defending Pakistan’s minority Christians. Many of our clients are very poor and unable to afford legal services. Due to this fact, many incidents go unreported, causing them to be under constant abuse from their oppressors.
