Don’t Fear What Man Can Do, Fear God

I want to encourage you with a Scripture that may sound alarming at first, however, allow me to explain because God’s got a message for all of you!

“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew 10:28

Alarming, I know! But in truth there is no reason to be alarmed. God wanted me to present this Scripture to inform us not be afraid of man. Especially considering the times in which we live. So many times we have gone through our lives worried too much about what other people think, how they might respond, or what they might do to us. We should not have our eyes on such things. In fact, the worst thing any person can do to us is kill us. Sounds horrible, I know! But God wants you to know that if you know the Lord, death is nothing to be afraid of. Man may have the ability to harm our bodies, but they don’t decide where we will spend eternity! That is up to the Lord and your choice to serve Him or not.

“The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. For what can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:6

The next part of Matthew 10:28 says instead of fearing man, fear God, who can send the soul to hell. Powerful words coming from the Scriptures, but at the same time comforting words. God is telling us to pay attention to eternity, rather than the vapor of time we have here on earth. If you compare our 90+ year life span to eternity, then you only end up with a mere second of time. Meaning the seconds that we spend on planet earth determine where we will spend eternity. Since we are only here for seconds compared to eternity, then my question to you is: how are you going to spend those seconds of time on earth? Are you going to serve God or not?

If everything we do is ultimately about eternity, then what man does to us, shouldn’t bother us (harder said than done–I know!). It doesn’t matter what others think of us, what they say about us, how they respond to us, or how they treat us. What matters is that we share Jesus with them and live our lives to glorify God. In the end, we all die. After all, all of us are appointed two things in life: taxes (LOL!) and death; then we are left with eternity. How do you want to spend it?

God has the ultimate say of who goes to heaven and who does not, however, He has given us the power of choice, to choose ourselves this day whom we will serve. He says that if we believe in his Son and confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord, we will be saved and have entrance into eternity. That’s a guarantee!

“I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.” John 5:24

Praise God! He says that we will never be condemned for the sins we have done, if we sincerely believe and accept his Son, Jesus. It doesn’t matter what we have done, who we have been, or any of that. What matters is that we love the Lord, believe in His Son, and live our lives as Christ has called us to live (Galatians 5:22-23).

God is telling you He loves you and he wants you in eternity with Him! He has a special place in heaven reserved specifically for you!

In closing I leave you with this final thought: Don’t fear what man can do to you in these latter days, instead fear God! Do not fear Him with trembling, but be in awe of Him and have reverence for His power and glory, for this is the fear to which He is referring.
