Busted: Daniel’s 70th Week is Not an End Times Event, It's Already Happened

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The prophecy of Daniel’s 70th week has been one of the most misunderstood prophecies in the Bible.  There are many different views of this prophecy, but the most widely held view is that it is still to come in the end times and that the tribulation will start when the antichrist signs a 7 year covenant with Israel which he will break after 3 ½ years.   Nothing could be further from the truth.

The main issue of contention is in this verseAnd he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease…  Daniel 9:27

The question here is:  who is the “he”, what is “the covenant”, and who are the “many”.   The time period is one week or 7 years.   I don’t know how anyone could say that the “he” is the antichrist, the “many” is Israel, and the covenant is some type of peace agreement.  This is pure conjecture, nothing more than a guess with no other scriptures to support it.  The next person will say, no, the “he” is Titus, the many are the surrounding nations, and the covenant is that they won’t interfere with his destroying Jerusalem in 70 AD.   And the next person will say no, it’s an event that will happen in the end times, which will even more confuse those who are already confused.

The reason this verse is so misunderstood is because of the way it is interpreted.  By those who believe this, it is understood to mean that the time period of the covenant is 7 years.  Instead, it should be understood as:  For 7 years he confirmed a covenant with many.   The time period does not refer to the covenant, but to the length of the prophecy.   Jesus made a covenant with many in the 7 years that the new covenant in his blood was first presented to the Jews; for 3 ½ years by him and then for 3 ½ years by his disciples, after which the covenant was preached to the whole world.  Jesus died halfway through which caused the sacrifice and offerings to cease, which fulfilled this scripture.  Only God and Jesus make covenants.   There is no mention of the antichrist making any covenants anywhere in the Bible.

Here is what Jesus said to his disciples in Mark 14:24   “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many,”  Does this not harmonize with the above scripture from Daniel 9:27.

Sorry, the covenant is for 7 years and is violated midway. The passage is very clear about that. And the identity of “he” is certainly not wild guesses. http://www.fether.net/index.php?page=refuting-preterism-a-quick-reference/

Finally, an article on Daniel’s prophecies that speaks the truth! The nonsense about an Antichrist that makes a covenant with Israel was a red herring introduced by the ‘Scofield Study Bible,’ a satanic attempt to confuse readers and lead them astray, written in the late 19th century.
You just have to read the original rather than the speculations of the pundits:
Dan 9:27 And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.”
Jesus is the one whose blood was shed in the new covenant, poured out for the many. Mk 14:24. Jesus is the one who put a stop to the sacrificial system with his ultimate sacrifice (Heb 10:10).
Titus was the ‘prince who is to come’ (in 70AD) and abominate the temple, destroying Jerusalem, and making desolate the ‘house’ of the Jews. (Matthew 23:38)
Thus, the 70th ‘week’ has come and gone, long ago; there is NO coming 7 years of tribulation. Yes, there will be trouble as not seen since the creation of the world, but it could be any duration (see Matthew 24:21 and 22).
Those who teach that Daniel is speaking of an Antichrist are putting the focus on the wrong thing entirely! Study the Bible for yourself!!
