As a general rule, it is the Shi’ites rather than the Sunnis who believe in the doctrine of the “mahdi”.
Nevertheless, there are, apparently, some Sunnis—although the probability is much greater that this is nothing more than an Internet psyop—who say that the “mahdi” awaited by the Muslims is the same as the Michael whose arrival is Prophesied by Daniel:
But this is a mistake.
The Michael whose arrival is Prophesied by Daniel is neither the “mahdi” nor the “messiah”; but, instead, the same Michael who is obliquely referred to in Sura 2, verse 98 of the Quran as the “apostle of Allah”.
Even so, such an error is much more reality-oriented than are the assertions of the Neturei Karta that the Michael Prophesied by Daniel is, get this, an “angel”; and that what the ‘Prophecy’ of Daniel means is that Michael the “angel” will be, get this, ‘praying for Israel’ “in heaven”.
(Are you KIDDING me?)
Now, if these Sunni Muslims could just understand that the Doctrine of “resurrection” referred to in the Quran is a Doctrine of ‘Rebirth’, and that the fulfillment of the Prophecy of Daniel is more important than the theories about any purported ‘mahdi’—or, for that matter, the declaration of any “Islamic State”—there just might be the beginning of the resolution of the religious-political conflicts not only between the Shi’ites and Sunnis; but, also, between Jews, Christians and Muslims.
