Sudden Destruction as a 2nd Event in Matthew 24 Prior to the Wedding Parable of Matthew 25

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Summary: This is the 2nd of a series that looks at conditions prior to the wedding parable of Matthew 25. We saw that some of the events in Matthew 24 preceding the wedding parable support the start of trouble and tribulation before Matthew 25, though most Christians think tribulation will come after they are raptured as part of the wedding in Matthew 25. Could they be wrong?

In the previous article, we considered Christ’s warning to “learn a parable of the fig tree” that represented the Jewish name then, but could mean American Christianity today. The U.S. has a high profession, but for 40 yeara since Roe v Wade, this “Christian” nation has murdered 55 million babies We are repeating Israel’s history of high profession while we are full of hypocrisy.

The fig tree was the 1st of five signs to indicate events that are “even at the door” when we see the fig tree with leaves (pretentious foliage but no fruit) wither. Don’t look now, but things are turning brown.

The 2nd warning of solemn import follows:

“As in the days that were before the Flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage until the day that Noah entered the ark, and [they] knew not until the Flood came and took them all away, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” Matthew 24:39.

The question is, How much “as”–how much will it be “like” the days of Noah.

We all recognize the signs of times now—eating, drinking, marrying—nothing wrong with that, but as in Noah’s time, we are doing them to excess, oblivious to things of greater importance.

Could it also mean sudden destruction as in the days of Noah? Paul said so–”When they shall say ‘Peace and safety,’ sudden destruction comes…” 1Thess 5:2,3.

God says that He won’t do anything without revealing it, Amos 3:7. So we should compare end-time passages to learn what we can of this sudden destruction.

  1. End-time “day-of-the-Lord” passages often have an earthquake in their context. Examples include Joel 2:10,11; Zephaniah 1:7,10; Zechariah 14:1,5.

  2. The last of 7 churches in Revelation 3 was lukewarm with materialism and felt little need of Christ who said He would knock. That church of Laodicea in the city of Laodicea, Asia ended in an earthquake circa 63 AD. Type and antitype for us?

  3. An earthquake precedes the 7 trumpets (Revelation 8:5) and the 7 thunders (Revelation 10:3) if we decode the latter reference to a lion’s “roar” with Joel 3:16, “the Lord shall roar…the heavens and earth shall shake.” This is the Lion of Judah that roars, Revelation 5:5.

More support might be given, but this is enough to suggest we could be in for something huge, “as in the days of Noah…” When it happens, those expecting to be raptured before trouble may want to revisit alternative views.

Again we might ask, How much “as in the days of Noah”? Could it mean with similar timing? At least one website suggests this possibility, MayJudgmentDay.com

What verse in the Holy Bible states that the “fig tree” represents the Jewish name or any other nation? As far as I can understand it just means to watch for the signs.

        Hi Robbie,

        Good question!
I Googled Israel and fig tree and thought this website was good– http://www.heraldmag.org/literature/proph_24.htm From my perspective, the context of the acted parable in Matthew 21 was in the same chapter as Christ’s entry to Jerusalem when heralded as the Messiah by the people, but rejected by the leaders which were as obstacles that like a mountain should be removed in the verse immediately after the fig tree withered, Matt 21:20,21.
In Luke 13, the owner comes looking for fruit on a fig tree for 3 years (same length of time as Christ’s ministry) and found none. Both these parables are compatible as the Jewish nation then, but America today does not seem any better than they were.
        Thank you for writing.
