Daniel's 70 Consecutive Weeks

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Daniel’s 70 weeks was a Messianic prophecy foretelling the exact time in history the Messiah would begin His earthly ministry. After the command to restore Jerusalem in 457 BC, it would be 69 weeks (483 years) until the coming of the Messiah. Jesus was baptized and anointed as the Messiah in 27 AD.

It is the last week (last 7 years) that is sometimes misunderstood.

Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself …
Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease…

It was in the middle of the 70th week, 3 1/2 years later, 31 AD, that Jesus was sacrificed as The Lamb of God, putting an end forever to the ritual animal sacrifices. These animal sacrifices could not take away sin, but only foreshadowed the Messiah’s sacrificial death.

This prophecy of 70 uninterrupted weeks is an important proof of Jesus’s identity as the Messiah. Christ cannot be taken out of this prophecy.

      .

I think it is interesting that 62 is separated out from the 70.

Daniel 5 says Darius [ie, Cyrus] was age 62 when he conquered Babylon.
Cyrus is an archetype of Christ. Cyrus is called God’s Anointed in Isaiah 45.
In Isaiah 44, Cyrus is called God’s Shepherd who will do God’s will. Ezra 1 says
Cyrus commanded the return of Judah to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple.

Oh… and one other point I find interesting… Rev 16:12… the drying up
of the Euphrates River for the kings from the east is an historical analogy
to how Cyrus, God’s Anointed King from the east, conquered ancient Babylon…
by drying up the Euphrates River. This symbolically released Jeremiah’s scroll
which was thrown into the Euphrates River at Babylon… Jeremiah’s prophecy
about the destruction of Babylon. Then there is the Cyrus white horse symbol
in Rev 19. According to secular history, white horses were sacred to the ancient
Aryan Persians and Cyrus took sacred white horses with him in his war against Babylon.
It was an incident with one of Cyrus’ white horses that gave him the brilliant idea
to dry up the Euphrates River, so his troops could secretly enter Babylon to conquer it.
