Few ideas have captured the imagination more than the Ride of the Four Horsemen. And, most of that ‘imagination’ is complete foolishness. Some of it is a reasonable attempt at trying to fit the pieces together.

 

Hopefully, the rest of us will ignore foolishness and confine our attempts at understanding, to what the Bible actually says. If you play games with the Bible, you are going to wind up in some very hot trouble with the Author.

 

As a writer, I don’t take kindly to having my words twisted. Multiply that by infinity when you consider that God doesn’t like having His words twisted, either.

 

It’s ALWAYS better to say, “I don’t know,” than invite the wrath of God.

The Ride of the Four Horsemen – Who are They?

 

When it comes to discussing Last Days prophecy, there are two verses that should strike fear in the hearts of all who consider such things:

 

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

 

And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

 

Revelation 22:18-19

 

If you add ANYTHING to the Book of Revelation that is not there, then you will suffer the terrible things that are described.

 

If you take away ANYTHING from the Book of Revelation… well …you will suffer eternal judgment.

 

If those two thoughts don’t make you afraid, then you are a fool. This means that you must NEVER fiddle with the Book of Revelation.

 

That’s why I’m extremely careful when interpreting that book. But, you didn’t come to hear me preach a sermon on interpretation. So, let’s get to these four horsemen.

 

What or Who

 

First of all, are they a What or a Who?

 

Well, let’s take a look. Or, as the Four Beasts said to John, come and see:

 

The White Horse

 

And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.

 

And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

 

The Red Horse

 

And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.

 

And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

 

The Black Horse

 

And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.

 

And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

 

The Pale Horse

 

And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.

 

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

 

Revelation 6:1-8

 

Now, I have an important question:

 

Do you see God giving a command to these horsemen?

 

No. You do not.

 

Does it mean that God has NOT given a command to these horsemen?

 

No. You don’t see that, either.

 

So, there’s something of a question mark over all of this, because all that we have is an observation of events, by John.

 

The White Horse

 

But, there is one thing that I can say with emphatic clarity:

 

The White Horse is NOT the Antichrist.

 

Those who make such foolish claims had better go and read Revelation 22:18 again, because THAT is dangerously close to adding to the Book of Revelation. You CANNOT say that this is the Antichrist. But, this doesn’t mean that there isn’t a connection to the Antichrist.

 

When does the Antichrist come?

 

Probably during the fifth or sixth seal. But, I will leave that for your own consideration, because I want to get back to these horsemen.

 

What is it that the first horseman is doing, the guy riding the White Horse?

 

Building an empire.

 

The next question is:

 

WHICH empire?

 

I personally believe that this is the Seventh Head of the Beast, that will be wounded and then revived. However, we won’t know for sure, until it happens. But, if I’m right, then the empire that is being created by the rider of the White Horse, is…

 

…the American Empire.

 

And, if that is the case, then this horseman has been riding since the mid-1960s, because THAT is when the American Empire began building. Unfortunately, there is so much analysis connected to my observation, that it would take a book to explain it all. So, let me give you a short list:

 

The Petrodollar

 

Yep. That was a really short list. And, it is THE reason why America has been able to conquer the world. And, if you need more background on that, go here:

Also…

 

…did you notice that the ‘Times of the Gentiles’ ended right about that time?

 

That’s right, on June 7th, 1967 – when Israel captured Jerusalem. And, the verse that you need is here:

 

And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. – Luke 21:24

Now, we still have three more horsemen.

 

The Red Horse

 

The rider of the Red Horse is interesting, and a little harder to pin down. But, this guy is given a megale makhaira – or, a really big sword. But, not a rhomphaia.

 

I’ve talked about the distinction before. But, what is curious about the use of makhaira here, is the addition of the word megale – or ‘great’. The makhaira is a ‘personal weapon’, but this one is big. And, it is armed conflict – not financial or rhetorical. These are people killing each other. And, peace is taken away from the Earth.

 

The Black Horse

 

Now, let’s talk about this Black Horse. Most people refer to what is happening here as the scarcity of food. But, in reality, it’s about the cost of food – not famine or drought.

 

Of course, the most direct way for food to increase in price is for there to be a drought, or some other source of famine. But, there are other ways, and we are starting to see the possibilities.

 

For instance, if the financial system collapses and farmers can’t buy seed to plant… well …food gets scarce.

 

We could also see the price of oil go up so high that food would ALSO get really expensive.

 

So, there are quite a few possibilities here.

 

The Pale Horse

 

Then, there’s the most terrifying horse of all, The Pale Horse. It kills and destroys the population of a quarter of the Earth. The problem is that we don’t know WHICH quarter.

 

Of the total land mass of the world:

 

• Africa is 20.4%
   

• North America is 16.5%
   

• South America is 11.9%
   

• Europe is 6.8%
   

• Asia is 30%
   

So, the question is:

 

Where does this Pale Horse ride?

 

My suspicion is Africa, but Africa encompasses less than a quarter of the world’s land mass.

 

So, where ELSE would it ride?

 

And no. You do NOT want to be there when it arrives.

 

When The Horsemen Ride

 

The next question is when these horsemen ride. I’ve pointed to the possibility that the rider of the White Horse has been riding since 1967. With all the conflict that we’ve been seeing since then, it seems like the rider of the Red Horse has been galloping across the planet, as well.

 

But, the Black Horse?

 

Hmmmm… that’s a good question. But, food scarcity has been hitting lots of places over the last few years, and we see that in all these ‘Arab Spring’ uprisings – especially, Egypt.

 

But, we may yet see the full effect.

 

Then, there’s the Pale Horse.

 

My fear is that this horse has begun its ride, and that we are seeing it with the rise of Ebola. I could be wrong, and I hope that I am. But, it really is something that we must consider.

 

The Human Reason

 

But, let me also leave you with another thought – one that appears to weave through tale of these horsemen:

 

Have you noticed the human component to all of this?

 

It appears to me that it is human activity that is the root cause of the death and destruction that we see. The White Horse conquers an empire, and humans are doing it. The Red Horse causes armed conflict, and humans are doing it. The Black Horse describes scarcity, and we can see how humans MIGHT be doing it. And, the Pale Horse… well …we DO see the fingerprints of evil men all over this dreaded Ebola.

 

We will have to see.

 

The point is that at least one or more of these terrible horsemen are riding the Earth today. And, this means that you need to take steps to prepare for when they arrive at your door.
