(Reuters) – Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah died early on Friday and his brother Salman became king, the royal court in the world’s top oil exporter and birthplace of Islam said in an official statement.
King Salman has named his half-brother Muqrin as his crown prince and heir, rapidly moving to forestall any fears of a succession crisis at a moment when Saudi Arabia faces unprecedented turmoil on its borders.
The rise of Islamic State in war-torn Syria and Iraq has brought to the kingdom’s frontiers a militant group that vows to bring down the Al Saud dynasty.
In Yemen, the Iran-allied Shi’ite Houthis have all but seized power and plunged the country to the brink of total chaos, opening space for al Qaeda, which waged an insurgency in Saudi Arabia from 2003-06 and nearly killed a top prince in 2009. Read more

Yemeni President Hadi resigns from office
Yemeni President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi resigned from his office on Thursday after Houthi rebels stormed his residence and clashed with government forces in recent days, the Al Arabiya News Channel reported
After refusing Hadi’s resignation, the country’s parliament called for an emergency session to convene on Friday.
Houthi rebels welcomed Hadi’s step-down, Reuters news agency reported citing a statement by the militant group.
“We apologize to you personally and to the honorable chamber and to the Yemeni people after we reached a dead end,” a government spokesman quoted Hadi’s resignation letter as saying.
“We have suffered from numerous difficulties and the unwillingness of the main political actors to assume their responsibility to lead the country to calmer waters,” the letter addressed to the speaker of parliament, who becomes interim head of state under the constitution, said.
The United States said Thursday it was assessing fast moving events in Yemen but still supports a peaceful political transition, Agence France-Presse reported. Read more

The new king is Crown Prince Salman, 78, state media announced, despite reports that he himself suffers from health problems.
“His Highness Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and all members of the family and the nation mourn the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, who passed away at exactly 1 a.m. this morning,” said the statement.
US President Barack Obama expressed “personal condolences” with “deep respect” upon word of Abdullah’s passing on Thursday night, reflecting on a “genuine and warm friendship” in a statement. Read more

Understanding knowing what truth is in these times being nearly impossible, I still wanted to opine because what Boehner did here inviting Benji to talk to Congress seemed to be beyond the pale as an American.
There are a lot of opinions about why he did this but the most obvious to me given Obama is choosing to deal directly with Iran now is for me to expect the rules of the mobster to prevail.
The Saudis who have always had the power to destroy Israel (But have not, even though their Palestinian Muslim brothers have been swimming in blood from Israeli bullets for way too long) have been accepting Yuan as payment for oil from China. The media did not make this widely known, nor the rift between the Saudi’s and the US Government. It was always a threat to leave the Petro Dollar. Think Libya and Iraq.
Now that the Saudi King has died and the new brother is taking over this (to me) puts the Israeli bankers in a potentially very difficult situation. I suspect the day Boehner did this, they already knew the King was about to pass away – and with him a handshake of understanding in how they jointly controlled the Middle East.
Obama to me has two choices, attend the funeral or insult them. The media is already hyping up the security concerns that would prevent him from attending. Boehner is sticking fast to his invitation to Benji as a needed thing for US security in their war on terror but true patriots are incensed with his sedition for doing this.
The US does need to needs to have this both ways but they cant control the Internet anymore or the angry starving masses from protesting against a civilization where the 1% are consumed by greed.
Given the Israeli’s heavy influence in media ownership in the US and Europe and the French busy burying their dead, watching this play out may offer surprises none of the rich guys expect. I have to ask myself why Benji invited the Jews to come home, and why now?
