Will the Nephilim Return?

Thomas Horn and Gary Stearman of Skywatch TV, skywatchtv.com, appear to believe there will be a return of the Nephilim during the last-days period of the reign of the beast/antichrist.  They write about it on several occasions whether they actually believe it or not.

What is a Nephilim?

Based on my personal study and research a Nephilim is the first generation offspring of a human woman and a divine created being (angel?) called a Watcher in the apocryphal book of 1 Enoch.  The theory of DNA alteration regarding giants and chimera has also been proposed. Other Biblical names for later generations include, but not limited to:  Emim, Anakim; Rephaim, Zuzim or Zamzummin.

The Septuagint uses the Greek word “gegenes”, with the implied meaning of “earth born” as its translation of Nephilim or giants.  This word is also used as a descriptive term for the so-called mythological Greek Titans and other ‘gods/half-gods of part-celestial and part-terrestrial birth including:  Hercules; Achilles; and the Sumerian Gilgamesh (which many suspect to be Nimrod).

A few exegetes teach the approaching “days of Noah” will include the return of Watchers (fallen angels) and/or Nephilim to plague mankind.  The Nephilim are supposedly dead.  Enoch writes that they killed each other and their non-human ungodly spirits are the current evil spirits and demons.  Commentators consider they drowned in the flood.  Regardless of the nature of their death, the Nephilim are supposedly no longer in existence.  Some consider Bigfoot and Yeti to be survivors of the Nephilim, but one of these so-called creatures has never been produced.  According to the apostle Peter the Watchers (fallen angels) are now imprisoned in Tartarus until the judgment.

For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but threw them into hell (tartaroo) and locked them up in chains in utter darkness, to be kept until the judgment, and if he did not spare the ancient world, but did protect Noah, a herald of righteousness, along with seven others, when God brought a flood on an ungodly world,   (2 Peter 2:4-5 NET)

The Seventy Generations

Another semi-popular prophecy found in the book of Enoch concerns the imprisonment of the Watchers and their final judgment at the end of 70 generations.

1 Enoch 10:11-15  And the Lord said unto Michael: ‘Go, bind Semyaza and his associates who have united themselves with women so as to have defiled themselves with them in all their uncleanness. And when their sons have slain one another, and they have seen the destruction of their beloved ones, bind them fast for seventy generations in the valleys of the earth, till the day of their judgement and of their consummation, till the judgement that is for ever and ever is consummated. In those days they shall be led off to the abyss of fire: and to the torment and the prison in which they shall be confined for ever. And whosoever shall be condemned and destroyed will from thenceforth be bound together with them to the end of all generations.

Although most do not consider this particular prophecy or the book of Enoch as of any Biblical value, but there are some relatively important internet writers who take this prophetic statement seriously, such as:  Thomas Horn of Raiders News Network; Bob Schlenker, of the Open Scroll Blog; and Steve Quayle; among others.

The above quote from the book of Enoch states the children of the Watchers (Nephilim) will slay each other and the angelic Watchers will be bound for 70 generations until the day of their judgment.  There is, of course, much disagreement concerning the definition of a generation or the length of a generation once the definition has been chosen.  Some say the length of a generation is one’s lifespan such as 70 years, and others claim a generation is the time period between a father and his first child.  One reference, Craig Paardekooper, counted the generations between Enoch and Jesus and arrived at a total of 70 – meaning there are 70 generations between Enoch and Jesus in the book of Luke.  At His death, Jesus entered into the Abyss and judged the Watchers as shown in the following scriptures.

In it he went and preached to the spirits in prison, after they were disobedient long ago when God patiently waited in the days of Noah as an ark was being constructed. In the ark a few, that is eight souls, were delivered through water.  (1 Peter 3:19-20 NET)

You also know that the angels who did not keep within their proper domain but abandoned their own place of residence, he has kept in eternal chains in utter darkness, locked up for the judgment of the great Day.   (Jude 1:6 NET)

Jesus pronounced judgment on the Watchers and they will supposedly be punished (lake of fire) at the time of judgment (perhaps the White Throne Judgment).  Bob Schlenker believes these Watchers will escape from the abyss through some entry system he refers to as a temporary time reset that opens a stargate (his term for a dimensional opening) instigated by the CERN supercollider. 

Bob Schlenker:  We’ve been writing for years now about a time mission, appointed for the resetting of time after it’s hijacked temporarily for the purpose of releasing the antichrist anointing agency and returning agents of judgment…..When time is temporarily hijacked, one of the Enemy’s agendas involves the time lock on a dimensional prison cell. A key operation is the securing of the release of those responsible for the Flood of Noah. We seem to be about half a millennium shy of their full sentence of 70 generations, so that countdown timer needs to be zeroed out for an early release. Seizing control over time will allow the Adversary to exercise a degree of control over the stargates, for a brief season. This is actually all part of the Sovereign God’s plan.

Tom Horn seems to have either miscalculated the 70 generation time span or some reporter has hijacked the original Enoch quote and attributed it to him.

Tom Horn Quote:  “These prophecies of Enoch mirror those of other apocryphal works, which indicate a specific future date in which the Watchers will rise for a judgment that will be ‘for ever and ever’ (Enoch 10:12) and also when the giant offspring of the Watchers will return to wreak havoc upon earth.”   “Because according to modern research, the roughly estimated date for the biblical flood is between BC 2800 and 2900. When you consider that a prophetic generation is 70 years based on Psalm 90:10 (‘The days of our years are threescore years and ten’), Enoch’s 70 generations times 70 years equals exactly 4900 years forward from the flood, bringing us to the current hour.

The following quote from Enoch 15:11 appears to follow more precisely the Nephilim invasion envisioned by Tom Horn.  As in Biblical scripture, there appears to be quite a bit of difference in the several translation versions.  Below is two different translations of the same verse 15.  One version claims the giants will work destruction on the earth and the second version states the giants will not rise up against humanity.

Enoch 15:11 (Version 1) And the spirits of the giants afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle, and work destruction on the earth, and cause trouble: they take no food, ⌈but nevertheless hunger⌉ and thirst, and cause offences. And these spirits shall rise up against the children of men and against the women, because they have proceeded ⌈from them⌉.

Enoch 15:11 (Version 2) They shall cause lamentation. No food shall they eat; and they shall be thirsty; they shall be concealed, and shall not rise up against the sons of men, and against women; for they come forth during the days of slaughter and destruction.  NOTE:  the word “not” doesn’t appear in all versions.

In Rob Skiba’s book, The Archon Invasion, he claims the locust type entities of Joel 2 could very well be chimeras of some type.  He claims they could be modern manmade DNA splicing creations.  Mr. Skiba also considers Joel 2 to be a parallel to the Revelation locusts that follow the smoke of the abyss.  They may be demons, the spirits of the Nephilim, ascending from the abyss.  A passage in the non-Biblical book of Jubilees states that demons were severely persecuting humans after the flood and Noah was asked to appeal to God to remove or subjugate them.

And Thou knowest how Thy Watchers, the fathers of these spirits, acted in my day: and as for these spirits which are living, imprison them and hold them fast in the place of condemnation, and let them not bring destruction on the sons of thy servant, my God;

And the chief of the spirits, Mastêmâ, [who is Satan] came and said: “Lord, Creator , let some of them remain before me, and let them hearken to my voice, and do all that I shall say unto them;

And He said: “Let the tenth part of them remain before him, and let nine parts descend into the place of condemnation.” (Abridged from Jubilees 10: 1-9)

This apocryphal scripture claims that ninety percent of the Nephilim spirits (demons) are imprisoned in the abyss awaiting the final judgment.  The remainder will be imprisoned in the bottomless pit at the beginning of the Millennium and then will be placed into the lake of fire.  The ten percent reprieved to roam the earth are aware of this future punishment and requested Jesus not to place them in the abyss before the time.

They cried out, “Son of God, leave us alone! Have you come here to torment us before the time?”   (Matthew 8:29 NET)

The major premise concerning the possible return of the Nephilim is a prophecy from the Book of Enoch that the fallen angels who fathered the Nephilim with the help of human women were to be held in chains for 70 generations and then brought back to be judged and thrown into the Lake of Fire.  The event that marked the beginning of their incarceration was the Great Flood, which the author dated at 2800-2900 BC.  Then using Psalm 90:10 as a guide it is determined a generation to be 70 years in length for a total of 4900 years. 4900 years from 2900 BC is about 2000 AD.

According to one exegete, the problem is that Psalm 90:10 established an average lifetime to be 70-80 years, not an average generation.  Generation and lifetime are not equivalent periods of time.  According to the dictionary, a generation is only the time between a man’s birth and the birth of his first child, which in Biblical times averaged out to be about 40 years.  This is simply another version of the mistake scholars make in saying that the Lord would return 40 years from the rebirth of Israel based on Matt. 24:34 where the word generation also appears.  In that case 70 years is the correct measure because the Lord was talking about the lifetimes of those being born then (this generation will certainly not pass away … ).

But the prophecy of “Enoch” clearly states 70 generations, about 2800 years, not 70 lifetimes.  If “Enoch’s” prophecy is legitimate, then the judgment of the fallen angels took place around the time of the 1st Coming and is not something about to happen now.   Peter mentioned Jesus preaching to spirits in prison who disobeyed at the time of Noah’s flood. (1 Peter 3:19-20) Maybe this is what he was talking about.

“In the tenth chapter of the book of Enoch, it says the Watchers who were judged during the flood would be bound beneath ‘the hills of the earth’ for seventy generations, until the day of their final judgment in which they will be released from those confines and thrown into an abyss of fire, ‘to the torment and the prison in which they shall be confined forever.’

“These prophecies of Enoch mirror those of other apocryphal works, which indicate a specific future date in which the Watchers will rise for a judgment that will be ‘for ever and ever’ (Enoch 10:12) and also when the giant offspring of the Watchers will return to wreak havoc upon earth according to one version of Enoch as specified above.”

Of immediate concern, Tom Horn warns, is the “seventy generations” that Enoch said would transpire from the time of the flood until the date of these events.  Why is this important?

“Is mankind therefore standing on the threshold of Watchers being thrown into an abyss of fire, and giants returning? Does Enoch’s dating of ‘the final judgment’ as occurring following 70 generations from the flood also indicate a looming time frame for the Judgment seat of Christ?”

In “Nephilim Stargates: The Year 2012 and the Return of the Watchers,” Horn points to additional prophecies, which he believes could support this timing of Enoch’s 70 generations and a catastrophic soon return of the Watcher’s offspring, which would lead to men’s hearts failing them for fear when seeing what is coming upon the earth.

Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. (Luke 21:26 KJV)

As an example, he points to the thirteenth chapter of the book of Isaiah, where it describes the destruction of Babylon (Iraq) at the end of time, something many Christians believe could have already occurred given the U.S. military operations and the current Arab incursions happening there. Yet as soon as the narrative of Isaiah 13 begins, the Lord commands, “Open the gates, ye ruler. I give command and I bring them: Giants are coming to fulfill my wrath” (Isaiah 13:3) Septuagint.

Horn says the word translated here as “Giants” is Gibborim, beings that, according to him, many scholars hold as having been the offspring of the Watchers and Nephilim.

“So perhaps,” he concludes, “the timing of the 70 generations of Enoch coming to an end, and the military operations in ancient Babylon/Iraq is not coincidental. Perhaps both of these prophets saw the same thing happening at the same time. The ramifications of what this portends may be more than most people can handle, and the return of the Nephilim sooner than we think.”
