Carbon dating, or any radiometric method, is assumption based and therefore entirely unreliable. The Paleontologists claim big Dino’s had small lungs because the atmosphere was thicker during the time Dino roamed the earth. If the atmosphere was thicker, way back when, (and there’s no reason to think it wasn’t) then carbon dating falls flat on it’s face given that C-14 is produced by cosmic rays striking said atmosphere. Thicker atmosphere means more C-14 while radiometric dating assumes an unchanging continuum.
They use multiple methods to radio carbon date organic matter, not just C 14. Radioactive isotopes decay at a steady rate called ‘a half life’. It does vary, but it is so tiny as to be insignificant. The dates are always given as a range from the oldest to the youngest possible time period, but it’s usually the older date that is frequently closer to the truth.
Hmm… I wouldn’t call a paper written in 2008 claiming a hypothesis to the Sphinx’s age a “new study”. The problem with this study is that it considered no other alternative conclusions to the erosion pattern between the Sphinx and Giza. This hypothesis considered only the erosion of the rock and, in comparison to similar sandstone by the Black Sea, was concluded to be wave erosion. Thus, IF it indeed is wave erosion; that means that the water level had to have been 150m above sea-level. Meaning the Sphinx must have been built before the water level was ever that high, which is 750,000 years ago; thus concluding that the Sphinx must be over 800,000 years old (approximately). Though this doesn’t account for the rapid current deterioration that is and has been happening, occurring more damage in the past hundreds of years than that what is hypothesized to have happened since 800,000 bc.

Plato places Atlantis at the most ancient possible date to c35’000 BCE. Not 800’000 which would be at least 7 c15’000 year warmer interglacial periods ago with c100’000 years of frigid ice age between each. Absolutely nothing man made would last that long.
They know pretty much the time period of Akhenaten because they have found the city he built. It’s made of impacted sand which acts like concrete, with loads of datable carbon material.
