Obama Just Planted A Ticking Time Bomb For Trump That’s Borderline Treasonous (Video)
A U.S. military base is a lousy place for a president to take political potshots, especially ones that come close to blowing holes in the command structure of the United States armed forces.
But that’s exactly what President Obama chose to do this week when he used MacDill Air Force Base as a stage, and United States airmen as his props, for a thinly disguised attack on the authority of soon-to-be President Donald Trump.
And he left a time bomb for the new commander in chief while he was at it.
According to CNS News, White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters that Obama’s speech had been prepared before the election, so the identity of the next White House occupant was unknown when it was written. However, it’s tough to imagine Obama including some of the remarks he made if Hillary Clinton were about to take over command of the United States military.
After running through a lengthy list exaggerating his own administration’s accomplishments against terrorism — and minimizing its failures — Obama turned to undermining the authority of his successor.
It was a stunning moment that would have been inconceivable if Clinton had won on Nov. 8. From a president preparing to give up office in a country engaged in two wars, it was unforgivable.
Then the current commander in chief told the military audience, “The universal right to speak your mind and to protest against authority, to live in a society that’s open and free, that can criticize a president without retribution … that’s what separates us from tyrants and terrorists.”
OK, Obama didn’t mention Donald Trump’s name. And he didn’t come right out and say he doesn’t think the American military should be obeying the lawful orders of its constitutionally empowered commander in chief, but could anyone think the president had anything else in mind when he dropped that time bomb about protesting authority and criticizing a president?
Technically, Obama was correct, of course. American citizens don’t surrender all their rights when they enter the military, though political speech while in uniform is definitely curtailed. But for a sitting president to openly call for military disloyalty to his successor borders on treasonous.
Even if every airman and officer in the audience was 100 percent honorable, the speech will stand as an open invitation to disgruntled men and women in uniform to take any action they choose if it satisfies their need to “protest” some White House decision they disagree with, and that could have disastrous consequences for the security of the country as a whole. (There might be a sexually confused potential traitor like Bradley Manning out there right now, lapping up Obama’s words.)
It’s an invitation Obama would never have left for a military with a Clinton about to occupy the Oval Office, no matter how much bad blood there might be between the two personally.
Republicans – even those not particularly close to the president-elect – slammed the speech.
Sen. John John McCain, the Arizona Republican who has publicly clashed with Trump on numerous occasions, called Obama’s speech a whitewash of eight years of failure against terrorism. At one point, Obama even argued that no “terrorist organization” had successfully attacked in the United States during his administration, but McCain wasn’t buying it.
Repeated terrorist attacks on American soil, the rise of the Islamic State in Iraq after the Obama administration threw away the victory George W. Bush won for it in Iraq and endless war in the Middle East are Obama’s true legacy, McCain said, according to The New York Times.
“President Obama’s speech was nothing more than a feeble attempt to evade the harsh judgment of history,” McCain noted.
“But to the American people, our emboldened enemies, and our dispirited allies, his legacy on counterterrorism is unmistakably clear: a disastrous withdrawal from Iraq, the terrorist rampage of ISIL, an indecisive approach to the war in Afghanistan that has empowered the Taliban, and an indifferent approach to the carnage in Syria on which our terrorist enemies have thrived. No rhetorical conceit will alter history’s verdict.”
As John Adams used to say, facts are stubborn things. It would take an orator more gifted than Obama to explain away the eight years of futility, military ineptitude and world disorder that have been the result of his stewardship of the White House.
Trying to blame political opponents for his failures and all but inciting open mutiny among American military members against his soon-to-be successor, are a poor legacy for Obama to leave behind him, no matter what his acolytes in the media might be claiming about his speech.
But the worst part of the speech was the time bomb Obama left behind. There’s no question it was deliberate. The only question is how it will go off.
