Chris Pleasance for Mailonline reports, Russia has announced plans to build ‘the world’s biggest aircraft carrier’ to take on America’s Nimitz class ships. The new Shtorm craft, known as Project 23E000E, could cost up to $17.5billion each and enter service by 2030, state media reports.
Russia is saying their new aircraft carrier will be the largest in the world and is called the ‘Shtorm class’ or Project 23E000E. They are saying the new super carrier could cost up to $17.5 billion with 2030 being the target year for the Shtorm to enter service.
Shtorm class carries would be powered by nuclear reactors and carry up to 90 aircraft, including the newly designed T-50, the report claims.
Despite the Kremlin’s claim that the new carrier will be the world’s biggest, its specifications appear similar to the current US Nimitz class ships.
Professor Vadim Kozyulin, an expert quoted by Russian media, admits that the ship will be based on the design for new American carrier USS Gerald R Ford.
‘It will be a floating airport that is accompanied by an entire squadron of ships,’ Mr Kozyulin said.
The new craft will feature a deck the size of three football fields, house 4,000 crew and need specially designed docks to fit inside.” – Daily Mail

Every aircraft carrier is a sinking city in a conflict. It is so easy to hit a carrier with a sub-missile or super-sonic missile. You do not even need cross hairs. It is the biggest target on the planet.
Sputnik news reports that the carrier (like the use of the United States carriers) that it will be used to help protect some of the global interests of Russia. That is it…it is not being made to challenge anybody or anything. The United States rules the seas currently and will continue to rule because we have 13 aircraft carriers of the finest quality and vintage.
Nobody’s ever gotten to see what it looks like when one of those bad boys sinks.
To say nothing of the ecological catastrophe you’d have on hand from nuclear contamination if the reactors are targeted in an attack, which, why wouldn’t they be.
Pretty soon, no one will want aircraft carriers any more. They’ll become obsolete in a hurry after the next real conflict breaks out.
