The Truth About What Happens After We Die.

Many books have been written and the internet and YouTube are full of stories, testimonies, and opinions about what happens after we die.  But here is what the Bible says about it. 

When someone dies they don’t go to heaven or hell, they “sleep” or rest in their graves until the resurrection.  But there are two resurrections.  The first one is for born again believers who have asked Jesus to forgive their sins.  They are resurrected and the rest of the believers that are alive at that time are caught up “with them” and they all meet the Lord in the air.  This happens at the second coming of Jesus when all believers are taken up to heaven and receive eternal life.  

The second one is not called a resurrection, it’s called the second death.  It happens after the 1000 year reign of Christ when all unbelievers “come alive” to have their day in court at the judgment.  They are shown all their sins and wrong doings and are sent to the lake of fire for the length of time that their sins deserve after which they perish and exist no more.  It works much like our court system where each individual case is judged separately.  It is stated like this:  And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The lake of fire is the second death.  Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.  Revelation 20:12+
