NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Sheriff raid today, taken from OSC press release:
“This morning at 5 AM around 15 sheriffs swarmed the Courthouse, blocking it off from the lower camp with police tape. They reinforced the County’s unofficial but repeated written notice that “lodging” was prohibited, and indicated any tents not removed by Occupiers would be confiscated and returned at some later date. A few tents were voluntarily moved, but a dozen tents and all personal property in them were taken by the sheriffs. Some individuals attempting to move out off County land were threatened with jaywalking tickets.”

Frances Moore Lappé, author of Diet for a Small Planet, visited Occupy Santa Cruz this morning around 8:00am.

A professor named as one of the “top 100 professors” visited and endorses Occupy Santa Cruz.

The TransCanada oil pipeline decision has been delayed by the Obama administration due to actions by protesters at the White House this week.

Occupy Denver and Occupy Salt Lake City were raided tonight. Portland, Oregon’s mayor Sam Adams has spoken of plans to evict Occupy Portland this week. Occupy Nova Scotia was deceivingly evicted when it decided to move location to accommodate Remembrance Day events. People in Atlanta are occupying the outside of a police officer’s home to protest foreclosures. Occupy Denver chose a dog as their official leader after requests from city officials to name a leader.

WORKING GROUP REPORTS

Camp: Kitchen needs improvement and is to be reorganized Sunday.

Tactics: November 17 is a national day of action. An action is being planned for the Water Street bridge in support with SEIU.

Infrastructure: Sheriff gave ultimatum that the dome and all other structures, including the Medical and Food stations to be dismantled by Monday, November 14.

Media: Press Release sent regarding police raid.

Legal: Working on solutions to the injunction suit filed on Occupy Santa Cruz by the City. Suggestion to remove case to Federal court because judges tend to regard the Constitution with higher standing. Hearsay says that all arrestees have been released.

Medical: Free Skool is reportedly having a class about mental health on Monday.

Location: Looking into occupations of foreclosed houses. See: Occupy Homes coalition and Homes not Jails.

Food: Another awesome and high volume meal prepared tonight.

Art & Music: Organizing for November 19 events to take place from Noon-Midnight.

Sanitation: Waste receptacles are going to be labeled more clearly.

Police Interaction: Strategizing responses.

AGENDA

PROPOSAL: All future decisions made by the General Assembly are not official until recorded online or on paper.
DISCUSSION:

  • Delays in posting, notes not centralized.
  • Could stagnate GA decisions.
  • Not everyone has access to internet/computers.
  • Actions often needed immediately (proposal would only affect GA decisions, not action consensus).
  • We need an archive to be available to everyone.
  • Amendment: Record important decisions made directly after GA in a locked binder.
  • Paper is not a viable option–it gets wet.
  • Look into getting a Netbook for the GA to take and/or post notes.
  • Controversy over the use of the word “official.” All decisions made at a GA should be honored.

REVISED PROPOSAL: All future decisions by the General Assembly to be immediately recorded to a binder.
Consensus not reached, deferred to Process Working Group.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

A nonviolent civil disobedience training will be held tomorrow, Sunday November 13, directly after the 2:00pm General Assembly.

Occupy Denver was subjected to tear gas and confiscation of property by police. Many marched and chanted “Whose streets? Our streets!” People attempting to cross the street to escape tear gas and police were arrested.

Occupy Salt Lake City was cleared by a bulldozer and arrests were made.

Occupy Portland and Occupy Oakland threatened.

We need a legal team to track arrests, etc.
