Why:

Two-day “siege” of the La Playa Hotel. La Playa Carmel Hotel & Bar has completed its $3.5 million dollar restoration, and former workers were not rehired when the hotel changed ownership and the construction was completed. Management has stated that it only rehired two of the 113 former La Playa employees. This, and the fact that workers have struggled with hotel management since 2010, has prompted labor groups to call for a boycott of La Playa Carmel and organizers also requested a strong turnout for the “siege.”  The June 27 call by La Playa Hotel Workers for Justice (former La Playa employees) for a boycott of the hotel was backed by Unite Here Local 483 and the Monterey Bay Central Labor Council in advance of La Playa’s reopening this month.

If employers show no loyalty to workers with 10,20,30+ years service, when will your employer do the same to you just because he/she can?
