This week in Congress

The big event in the U.S. Senate this week is the cloture vote on S. 2747, the “Freedom to Vote Act.” This is the latest version of H.R. 1/S. 1. Like its predecessors, this bill nationalizes elections. It also imposes new regulations on groups like Campaign for Liberty that would cripple our ability to communicate vital information about your elected legislators’ positions on key liberty issues. Today, the House will vote on H.R. 5304, legislation funding the government until December, providing billions in aid to those impacted by the recent natural disasters, and “suspending” the debt limit into next year. The House will vote on H.R. 5304 at around 2 p.m. even though text of the bill was not available until after 9 a.m. this morning. Once again, we see how the rule requiring legislation to be made available online three days before being voted on is ignored for the really significant bills.
