HOUSTON—Churchgoers are rallying around their pastor after mega-church leader Creflo Dollar was accused of punching and choking his daughter.
Dollar was arrested in Atlanta on Friday, charged with simple battery and injury to a child after his 15-year-old daughter accused him of punching her, choking her and hitting her with a shoe during an argument over whether she could go to a party.
Dollar is the leader of one of America’s largest churches. More than 30,000 people attend his home church in Atlanta and there are satellite churches around the nation, including one in Houston.
Dollar addressed the accusations from the pulpit Sunday morning, and also took to Twitter.
“As a father, I love my children and I always have their best interest at heart at all times, and I would never use my hand to ever cause bodily harm to my children. My family thanks you for your prayers and continued support,” he said.
Dollar told his parishioners during remarks Sunday, “I want you all to hear personally from me that all is well in the Dollar household.”
“I stand behind Pastor Dollar 100 percent. He is my father in the faith and I love him. Whatever goes on I am behind him,” said Emmanuel Smith.
“It is fine. Everyone goes through trials and tribulations and it is good to have it out there. God says you should come to me about your problems,” said churchgoer King David Sims.
Dollar is saying that he should have never been arrested.
