Did God Write the Bible or Did Man?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The Bible is God’s Word to Man. God dictated it and man wrote it down. The amazing thing about the Bible is that it was written over a period of about 1500 years by 40 different writers most of whom never knew each
other, and there are no contradictions. They all talk about the same thing, and the story flows from beginning to end. This is why it is the Word of God and not the word of man because it would be absolutely impossible
for man to do this.

It is a story about how the world began, where man came from, what man did and how God interacted with man. In the Bible, God gives us everything we need to know for our life here on Earth. It tells us about who God is, who we are, what God thinks of us, how we can interact with God, and how we should live with each other. The Bible is also full of prophesy, some that has already happened and some that has not yet, but will.  Basically everything we need to know about life is in the Bible.

The reason the Bible is such an outstanding book is because in it God shows His love for mankind. It is a timeless book. It applies just as easily to today as it did 2000 years ago, because we have not changed that
much, just the things around us change. It is a story of a Father to his children, and what father does not want the best for his children? Does our father always give us everything we want? Of course not. Does our father always treat us wonderfully and never discipline us? Of course not. But our father always loves us and does what he thinks is best for us. So does God.

The Bible is a book that was written to you personally. God does not have favourites, He loves you as much as every other person on this earth. Therefore, what He says in the Bible He says to YOU. He wants to have a
relationship with you. He wants you to know Him and talk to Him. He wants to be your friend. Even if God is not your friend right now, you are His friend already. He loves you more than you can imagine and will
show you that in the Bible.

Here are some scriptures that clearly show that it was God who wrote the Bible and not man. God dictated the Bible to man just like a boss dictates a letter to his secretary. Man wrote it down, but God chose the words.

Exodus 34:27
Then the Lord said to Moses “Write down these words….”

Jesus said in John 12:50
“So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”

The Apostle Paul said in Galatians 1:11
“I want you to know brothers that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. I did not received it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.”

The Apostle Timothy said in 2 Timothy 3:16
“All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

The Apostle Peter said in 2 Peter 1:21
“For prophesy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit”

Here we have five different writers that all say the same thing. It was not man, but God that decided what to write in the Bible. Man just did the writing according to what God told him.

The best example that God wrote the Bible is that Moses who is credited with writing the first 5 books of the Bible obviously had to have the events that preceded him dictated to him, otherwise, how could he possible
have known what to write. For example, how could Moses have written about Adam and Eve and other events
that happened before he was born? Someone had to tell him what to write, and that was God.

There have been different authors over the years who wrote books that they said were from God like A Course in Miracles a few years ago, and the most recent being the Conversation with God series written by David
Walsh which became a bestseller in many countries. He said he received his information from God, so I read the first book to see if what he wrote complimented the Bible. If God did dictate Conversations with God to him,
then his book should agree with the Bible because after all they would have had the same author. The first half of the book sounds like it did indeed come from God, but then it begins to totally contradict the teachings of the Bible, especially on some key issues concerning Jesus. Therefore I am convinced that it was not the same “god” that dictated that series of books. And I believe that anyone who knows their Bible would agree. So one has to be careful what you accept as being from God. Anyone can say that it is from God because how do you argue against that, but the ultimate test is to compare it to the Bible to see if it agrees with God’s Word or not.  God does not update his work every few years. The Bible says that it already contains everything we need to know.

God wasn’t capable of writing the bible so man wrote it instead!

    • Troll King

As soon as man entered the picture the writings were corrupted!

    • Mellissa

Er using the bible as a source to prove God dictated it is not really viable. Since it is the text in question you can not use it to prove the point.
First you need to find the original sources for all the texts, not many of the old were written when Christianity was even a gleam in Jesus eye. Then you have to consider how different it is from the initial book that was made when they combined the ancient works of knowledge and myth into the first bible. They have changed and re written and removed and added so much that it is not the same work as so long ago.
Very few texts actually say they were dictated by God.

Since the article has really little to go on anyways I think it is just done for the inflammatory possible comments :D Cheers

So easy. Of course it was rewritten by evil sick Roman politicians, scholars, secret societies, so cal prophetic leaders, the church, etc etc etc…The original scripts will never be read by mankind, if there is any….Is all a grand plan for mankind that is why the Bible was rewritten with FEAR!

      • Louis

Anyone who does not fear God is insane. Fearing God means to grant Him love and reverence.

Jango’s article was thoughtful and well-written. I’d like to see those who disliked the article to write one equally as worthwhile. But of course they can’t — mainly because they appear to be illiterate.

“if there is any” (if there are any)
“so cal prophetic leaders” (so-called ‘prophetic leaders’”)
“Is all a grand plan for mankind that is why the Bible was rewritten with FEAR!” (this is not a sentence)

Let me guess — you flunked out of grammar school — and yet you deem yourself brilliant enough to overturn the knowledge of the ages?

        • Troll King

Why on earth would anyone fear a truly loving god??? Man is the most corrupt creature on the planet and it doesn’t what religion he follows! I fear man more than a loving god! You can dress up a pig but it’s still a pig!

        • Pix

“Anyone who does not fear God is insane. ” You mean they would be if it existed. An omniscient creator god that judges and condemns thinking feeling beings to an eternity of torture, would be a narcissistic schizophrenic mass murderer, deliberately setting people up to fail. It is either omniscient and doesn’t need to judge because it already knows what everyone is going to do from creation onwards, or it isn’t and has to judge people after the fact. Which is it?

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering”. Yoda.

        • DaveB

“Anyone who does not fear God is insane. Fearing God means to grant Him love and reverence.”

So if you love someone and you revere them, you are also afraid of them? So love and fear are the same?

How does that make any sense?

If you love and revere God, then love and revere God, fear has nothing to do with it.

        • Don't be hating!

That is why your dumb ass is ANONYMOUS!

The Bible is intended to conceal, not reveal. The Dune series, written by Frank Herbert, is a much more accurate account of Earth’s past. If you want to start to get it, search these two videos on YouTube “Dan Winter – The Galactic History of DNA” and “Dan Winter – The Purpose Of DNA”. For Earth, the nightmare, we call normal, began to end on Dec. 21, 2012. We are in for a rough ride but the nightmare is still ending and Earth is being returned to the mainstream after hundreds of thousands of years, of a horrible diversion. Rejoice.

A woman/man secretary works for a big law firm downtown. The Principal attorney dictates to the secretary a memo to be passed on to the client. The memo is a precursor to the contract they will sign before the attorney takes the case. Who Authored the Memo? Is the contract with the client and the secretary or the Principal. When the client reads the memo/contract will they regard the secretary or the Principal as the person/party that authored the document.

Only a fool says in their heart/mind God of Abraham, Creator of the Universe does not exist. The OP did a good job in pointing out some of the facts of Authenticity of the Bible.

Here is a riddle: Who made the building? The Architect or the Contractor? Okay, so each time you see a house, do you see the Architect/engineers who Authored the Building? So because you don’t see them standing next to the building, you must conclude, “they do not exist.” Only the contractor exists because his lawn sign shows he was there. This is the kind of foolishness that goes on today on this Site and others as regards to God and Jesus Christ.

I pray for those of you who doubt there is God or the Bible is His dictated word to man: Oh! Lord, forgive these people who doubt you. For they have believed the lie of the evil one and doubt has cast a shadow in their heart. May your grace and Light shine upon them one more time and give them a chance to repent and make restitution for all foolish communication that proceeded out of their heart. Let them wake up and realize this world and all in it was made by You and give you glory, all the days of their lives, in Jesus Name. Amen.

sarcasm.. the lowest form of wit.

i can pick up on sarcasm, but your banal commenting about HAARP does not fit the definition.

pointing out your stupidity, is not trolling, but jumping from thread to thread posting inanities about HAARP – does however fit the definition of troll, thanks for proving yourself an imbecile … again

        • Maverick

Actually I was using sarcasm to mock people who spout off everything is a cause of HAARP

And yes ‘pointing out my stupidity’ is a form of trolling me moron. If you wanted to make an actual intellectual comment you wouldn’t have to resort to insults to make your point.

I was bored for a bit so I decided to comment on a bunch of articles about HAARP…. and lo and behold….. You Anonymous Ball-less Coward predictably followed me around trolling on my comments.

God did not write the Bible, she distorted it so that you would not know the truth.
You can, however, know that Yahweh wrote the Bible through dictation to humans.
First you need to understand that the Bible, if you care, says that Satan is God of this world. Literally.
Aramaic, Greek, Latin, Hebrew, English and most other translations are all the same in that regard.
Once you understand that God is Satan and Yahweh is the Creator then you will progress. Until then you are stuck in blind alleys with the blind who lead you.
You might make some progress in this area, also, if you prove the Sabbath day and it’s meaning. Then you will also know the mark of Yahweh and conversely, through deduction, the Mark of Satan.
Which brings me around to ’666′.
Aside from that being the number of calls that a cell can handle at one time, or a principal component of HR 6166 which is the the enabling legislation for the prosecution of the Inquisition in this period, it is also the number of man (6) conjoined to the number of books in the Bible (KJV) (66) and his interpretation as directed by Satan.
The chief man on this planet who does that is the current Pope. He bears the number 666 as part of his office, Chief Bridge Builder/Diplomat, as does his Church and all Christian churchesf, being daughters of that whore. This includes all 26,000 Christian denominations in America. ALL!
At least, that’s what the Bible says.

      • Troll King

My good god man! You are completely deluded!! I see the brainwashing went very well in your case!

        • Troll King

“She distorted it!” You got that right…it is a distorted book and you’ve got to be twisted to believe in it’s content!

        • BEEF SUPREME

Correction: The Bible was not penned by 66 individual writers but 40. This is common knowledge among Bible scholars.

      • Jango

You are so right. Sorry, my mistake. There are 66 books in the bible which was written by 40 different writers. I have made the correction. Thanks…

Every play the telephone game in kindergarten? How many times did the story the first person told come out the same way it went in? Never. If you lived a to be a 100, then died. 500 years pass and someone decides to write a story about you. How accurate do you honestly think it will be? No one to interview, just bits and pieces. What if the future person writing is French but in your time Klingon was the language? Not trying to discredit the Bible or the word of God. I believe in God 100%. But people should learn to think outside the box.

    • DannyWilten

The argument is that the ones who wrote the bible were “inspired”. Although I agree with this partially, the truth is that this was decided by the Roman Catholic church in addition to the other books they decided to put into and leave out of the bible.

Since the “inspiration” they spoke of is not decided upon by the bible itself, anyone can write a bible and say it was god that spoke through them. You are at liberty to believe them or not.

      • HereAmI

The number of books which are in the Bible is the divinely significant 66, no more, and no fewer. The reason for this is because there are 22 letters in the Hebrew aleph-bet. The more percipient amongst you will realise that there is an indisputable link between the two numbers. Wrapped three times around a wheel with 22 spokes, we realise something very profound. The three books on each spoke share major conceptual similarities, and illuminate and expand on each other. The scriptural canon also divides into identical themes, eg 5 books of Moses, 5 OT books by the 4 major prophets, 5 books of the NT written by 4 authors, 12 books of OT history 3 of them being post exilic, 12 minor prophets, 3 of whom are post-exilic, 5 books of wisdom which are at the centre of the Word, etc. In addition, a wheel made as described at “The Bible Wheel” w/s reveals a cross built into its essential structure. For all these reasons and more, please be aware that we are dealing with a living organism when we pick up the Word of God. Please also be aware that, to quote Vernon Jenkins at “The Other Bible Code” w/s, ( which you definitely need to see ),”The Bible has within itself the means of delivering a crushing response to all who would challenge its veracity”, quite a few of whom appear to have come out to play today.
A final word to the incorrigible “Pix”, who appears above. Here is a quotation from him.
“… An omniscient creator god that judges and condemns thinking feeling beings to an eternity of torture…”
Be aware that scripture does not threaten any of the things which he imagines in the darkness of his heart. Let me quote a few scriptures to explain the fate of the unbeliever, which will come upon him at the Second Death, just prior to which time he is called upon to explain before his Great and Omniscient Judge, the Lord Jesus Christ, his stiff necked and satanic pride.
“The dead praise not the Lord, nor any that go down into silence” ( note; not into screams of terror.)
“In that day, his thoughts perish”
“For in death there is no remembrance of You”
“The living know that they shall die, but the dead know not anything”
“They shall be as though they had not been”
The simple fact is that God punished His son for the sins of the world. Remember the words of John Baptist, “Behold the Lamb of God…”
As such therefore, He has no requirement to punish anyone else. Although He must be severely tempted, whenever He hears Pix’ name.
But the Bible does evoke fear in us, as should be the case. We have a mighty God who is terrible when crossed, but the personification of love if we simply obey and honour Him.
“Fear God and keep His commandments, FOR THIS IS THE WHOLE DUTY OF MAN”.

There has been only one member of the human race to whom absolute authority was given, The God-Man, The Lord Jesus Christ Matt.28:18, because He, The Lord Jesus Christ is absent from the earth and at the right hand of the Father, He must leave behind a standard which carries the same authority with which He spoke durning His incarnation, that Absolute Standard of Authority is found only in the Word of God.
Inspiration applies only to the origional languages of Scripture and guarantees thier accuracy.

The Bible was inerrant in its original languages only, much information is lost in a translation. Having a full understanding of the huge complexities of the Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic is essential to be able to accurately divide the Word of Truth. God’s complete message to man was permanently recorded with perfect accuracy in the origional languages of Scripture.

I do not believe the age for the Pastor-Teacher is over, we need them more than ever in the time we are in. The Bible tells us that the proper protocol in this dispensation is to submit ourselves to the authority of a man who has the spiritual gift of a pastor-teacher.

Ephesians 4:11-13 Then He gave some temporary unique spiritual gifts to pastor-teachers for the purpose of equipping and indoctrination perfecting the saints, for the production of Christian service, gift, priesthood, ambassadorship, divine establishment for the construction edification of the body of Christ until potential we all attain arrive the unity of doctrine what is believed and by means of epignosis knowledge related to the Son of God advancing in the mature winner, to attaining the stature the measure of maturity from the fullness full blessings of Christ.

God’s complete message to man was permanently recorded with perfect accuracy in the origional languages of Scripture. The school of Antiock taught litural approuch, historical, grammical of hermanutics, exegits dispensation.
The school of Alexandria taught allgorical approuch, in mid-evil times does not represent christianty, was a time God the Holy Spirit was quenched, ignored. When theologians allegorize and spiritualize the Word of God they place emphasis on man and his good works, and all of this leads to human good and evil.

The Bible is a norm or standard, the Divine and Absolute Standard, the Bible is the only relible source of information with regard to eternal salvation and the alternative eternal condemnation John 3:16

What you mean out of the 40 authors claimed to have written the bible, the 4 gospels are by anonymous authors they are just called Mathew Mark Luke and John, Timothy 1, 2 and Titus are by an unknown, written ages after Paul lived. All of the NT story is straight out of the Egyptian book of the dead. The OT doesn’t represent Jewish history in any way.

There isn’t so much as a single scrap of substantiation there are any sort of gods, let alone an omniscient one obsessed with humanities sex lives. There is plenty of evidence it was created by Amenhotep IV, c1’300 BCE. The inbred despot who created the first mono deity religion and forced the entire Egyptian empire to follow it. Only Amenhotep was allowed to worship his invented mono deity, everyone else had to worship him as the KRST, the go between mediator. Which was later plagiarised by Christianity and turned into the word Christ and the role given to the Jesus instead of Horus from the original version.

The bible was compiled in the 4th century CE, commissioned as in bought and paid for, by the worst insane despot next to Amenhotep, the Roman emperor Constantine.

      • Ishah

The gospels were written by 4 men discussing the same topic the incarnation of Christ.

Matthew circa 45-58 AD – by Matthew
Matthew presents Jesus Christ as Messiah the King.

Mark circa 57-63 AD – by John Mark
Mark presents Jesus as the Servant of the Father.

Luke circa 63-68 AD – by Luke
Luke presents Jesus Christ as the Son of Man.

John circa 85-90 AD – by John
John presents Jesus Christ as the Eternal Son of God – emphasizing the deity of Christ.

1 Timothy circa 65-66 AD – 65 AD from Macedonia by Paul

Titus circa 65-66 AD – 66 AD from Macedonia by Paul

II Timothy circa 67 AD – 67 AD from Rome by Paul
Paul wrote from 52 to 67 AD – He was martyred in 67 AD

and Hebrew circa 67 AD – by an Unknown Writer, a book of a man of Grace, maybe Barnabas

        • Pix

You can strike Timothy 1 and 2 off your list, also Titus. They have all been proven to be much older, they are also by unknown authors assumed to be Christian. As are the 4 gospels Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. Paul talks a lot about KRST as the saviour and go between, and nothing what so ever about Jesus. Nothing that he did, his life, his teachings, not a thing. In fact it’s 99.99% straight out of Mithrasism.

        • Pix

From the wiki, just to prove none of this is a big secret:

The Gospel According to Matthew (Greek: κατὰ Ματθαῖον εὐαγγέλιον, kata Matthaion euangelion, τὸ εὐαγγέλιον κατὰ Ματθαῖον, to euangelion kata Matthaion) (Gospel of Matthew or simply Matthew) is one of the four canonical gospels, one of the three synoptic gospels, and the first book of the New Testament. It tells of the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.
Matthew probably originated in a Jewish-Christian community in Roman Syria towards the end of the first century A.D.[1] The anonymous author….”

I’ll repeat that last bit “The anonymous author….”

    • Lord Drek

Modern Christians have a “helluva” time with this question. They dread looking foolish or stupid to the lost world (something the Bible promises will happen) but they won’t come right out and say that the Bible is flawed. So they come up with idiotic arguments like “Yes, we believe the originals are inspired, but today, there is no perfect Bible.”

A Christian warrior accepts, by faith, that the God who created the Universe and formed man from the dust of the Earth can not only inspire, but PRESERVE His perfect words. The Authorized 1611 King James Bible is that perfect translation, available to man in the 21st century.

This claim shocks and offends the sensibilities of most modern Christians, who rely on a mixture of science, reason, textual criticism, their emotions, and other Christians to guide them in their spiritual walk.

Before you take to your keyboards and attempt to correct my laughable faith with science, reason, textual criticism, etc., I challenge each of you to humbly, diligently seek the Lord in prayer about the Bible version issue. If you are sincere and have a genuine desire to know the truth regardless of its cost to you (the truth will always cost you something), then the Lord will send His Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth (John 16:13).

If you refuse to pray to God about the issue, you may very well be saved, but your lack of faith makes you quite useless as a Christian warrior. And you do know that you’re in God’s army, don’t you?

      • BEEF SUPREME

        How about it Drek,

The Torah says we are to confirm a thing by two or three witnesses. And just in case you are one of the folks who says the Torah (the Instruction of YHWH) has been done away with — the Apostle Paul says the same thing in 2 Corinthians 13:1

In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

Two things — why is Paul teaching Torah (Deuteronomy 17:6) if the Law has been abrogated, and where is your confirming witness for this claim of yours Dreck?

If you can’t confirm it — it’s not true. This has nothing to do with discernment or some secret message from the Holy Spirit which only the so-called faithful can grasp. This has to do with following the simple orders of Scripture.

Can you confirm this message of yours? Of course you cannot. Thus — there is no truth to it at all.

        • BEEF SUPREME

…and by the way — that quote from Paul in 2 Corinthians comes directly out of the King James, which I read every day. This I can tell you; your message is nowhere in the entire Book. Not even the King James itself makes the claim you love to make.

You’re not allowed to just CLAIM something is true, as it pertains to the Scriptures…

…you have to prove it with witnesses.

          Good luck.

      • Ishah

        Derk said
A Christian warrior accepts, by faith, that the God who created the Universe and formed man from the dust of the Earth can not only inspire, but PRESERVE His perfect words.

I personaly have the New American Standard, by the Holman Bible Publishers, The Lockman Foundation. Which I believe is closest to the origional languages of Scripture.

Manthano means to learn from a teacher, not to learn on your own, to learn from an instructor.
Revelation the Greek word apokalupsis, meaning revelation, is defined as God making known to man what is otherwise unknowable, God has to reveal Himself to us, a material universe demands a Creator, man is the object of that creation, therefore, communication from the Creator to mankind is to be expected, so the noun apokalupsis Revelation implies unveiling, disclosure by God Himself regarding things previously unknown and things that cannot be explained, there is nothing inscrutable in the Word of God, the completed Canon of Scriptures, if you want to learn you have to submit.
The need for the completed Canon of Scriptures is so that believers in every generation might have complete revelation from God, Heb.1 God talks to His people today through His Word.

God the Holy Spirit as the Mentor or paraclete-helper, advocate of all believers in The Lord Jesus Christ, He is the Spirit of Truth, who teaches the believer and guides him into all truth, christians are to preserve, defend and protect the Word of God.

God vindicates His Word in Scriptures Ps.138:2 or in the believers soul, man comes and goes, but The Word of the Lord endureth forever. 1 Peter 1:25

It says in that book that you need more than faith alone, you need to Know God or ‘thyself’ as the Greeks would put it. Nobody needs a book to tell you what to do – The Kingdom is within YOU – how simple & perfect!

        @ Djedi

The Kingdom of God is the invisible Church, believers in Jesus Christ, the whole spititual commonwealth of God’s childern, the true company of all faithful people.
God’s Love is expressed by His Grace.
We all enter salvation in exactly the same way, through faith alone in Christ alone.

Abraham knew Him as Adonai(Lord), Moses writes Abraham believed in Yahweh (Self-Existing One) because that was the name by which God revealed Himself to Moses. In each case, the revealed member of the Godhead is the Lord Jesus Christ,John 1:18; 6:46; 20:28; 1 Tim.6:16; 1 John 4:12; Acts 20:28; Rom.9:5; Heb.1:8; Col.2:9;Phil.2:6; 2 Pet.1:1. Whether Iesous Christos, Yahweh, the Second Person of the Trinity, or Adonai, Christ is the only object of faith for salvation.

Inviting Christ into the heart is blasphemy a spiritually dead person cannot invite Christ anywhere, there is no works of any merit except the saving works of Jesus Christ on the cross.
Believe and you shall be saved, finished with results that stand finished forever!

For you see,God the Father loved the world so much, in this manner, that He gave His uniquely born Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16

Because of the work of Jesus Christ on the cross, salvation is available to everyone who believes.

i thank Yahuwah for my king james study bible with greek and hebrew. He has given me my life and breath and every minute of every day. i love Him with all my heart. the bible tells you Yahuwah’s commandments. He has given us His Son and his holy spirit. i am His servant. i show my love by serving Him. i try to follow His commandments. the world would be a better place if everyone followed His great teachings. evil would be banished. hating and arguing wouldn’t happen. i am amazed when i pray for things and they come true. my prayers are answered continually. i feel this present earth will be done away with someday and a beautiful holy world will come. my greatest hope is that i am judged worthy to take part. i hope you all will repent and call on Yahushua to find peace and love and freedom in the coming kingdom and help in this funny world too.

      • HereAmI

You don’t have to “feel” that this world will be done away with one day. God TELLS you it will be done away with !

And if thou shalt confess the Lord Jesus with thy mouth, and believe in thine heart that God has raised Him from the dead, then you have passed from death into life.

End of, as the saying goes.

There is no historical records of a man called Jesus claiming to be the sun of god. There are hundreds of roman historical records of people claiming to be the messiah but none of a man named Jesus that healed, walked on water, resurrected… Etc. now you would’ve thought there would be wouldn’t you. Not one. Look it up yourself. It was a borrowed, converted ancient story about the sequence of the stars. The stars converted into characters in the stories over the years. End of.

The bible is a collection of legends and myths with some true stories all mixed in together then released to the people as all true and irrevocable. Man made control mechanism in a book. There is no god, religion is a control mechanism and religious believers are desperate for a “safety net” to the after life.

      • Ishah

Religion is a system whereby man by his own efforts and merits attempts to gain salvation or the approbation of God. Christianity is a relationship with Jesus Christ, by grace through faith
        Eph 2:8 9.
        Religion is satan’s counterfit.

Pix, that’s sorta laughable, I will take the Truth of the Word of God over wiki anyday!

“The amazing thing about the Bible is that it was written over a period of about 1500 years by 40 different writers most of whom never knew each other, and there are no contradictions. They all talk about the same thing, and the story flows from beginning to end. This is why it is the Word of God and not the word of man because it would be absolutely impossible for man to do this.”

I’m a Christian who loves Jesus Christ more than anything else in the universe, but I find it disturbing to read things from fundamentalists, like the bit that I’ve quoted above, that simply aren’t true. If you’ve ever read that Bible you’d know that there ARE contradictions. Lots of contractions. For example:

Will you die if you eat from the Tree of Knowleged? Genesis 2:17 says, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” But then later in Genesis 5:5 we’re told, “And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.” Which is it?

Who was Joseph’s father? Matthew 1:16 says, “And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.” But Luke 3:23 says, “And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli.”

How many sons did Abraham have? Hebrews 11:17 and Genesis 22:2 tell us that he had only one son, yet Genesis 4:22, 16:15, 21:2-3 and 25:1-2 tell us that he had more than one son. [Of note: Genesis 4:22, 16:15, 21:2-3, which all said that Abraham had more than one son, come before Genesis 22:2, which tells us that he had one son.]

What was Moses like? NUM 12:3: “Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.” Yet in Numbers 31:14-18 we’re told, “And Moses was wroth…And Moses said unto them, “Have ye saved all the women alive? … Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman, … But all the women children … keep alive for yourselves.”

Anyone who’s studied Scripture knows that there are a great many contradictions in the Bible. Some are the result of a clerical error — the Bible has been translated thousands of times over the centuries, so mistakes have been made — and some were probably there from the beginning. The thing is, we don’t have any of the original Texts in our possession, so it’s impossible to know what the originals said. Does this mean that I can’t still believe in Jesus Christ or His teachings? Of course not, but we must read the Bible with discernment. To suggest that the Bibles we have today are as they were thousands of years ago, and inerrant, is simply not true. God’s Word is inerrant, but the Bible is but a book written by fallible men.

      • BEEF SUPREME

        Gigi,

There are exactly ZERO contradictions in Scripture. The written Word of God is Scripture.

By way of a few supposed examples of contradictions in Scripture (The Bible), you wrote:

“Will you die if you eat from the Tree of (Knowledge)? Genesis 2:17 says, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” But then later in Genesis 5:5 we’re told, “And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.” Which is it?”

Is there a contradiction here? Let’s see what the Apostle Peter has to say about it:

        2 Peter 3:8

“But, beloved, BE NOT IGNORANT of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

Adam died before he reached 1000 years. Thus, Adam died before his second day. No contradiction.

“Who was Joseph’s father? Matthew 1:16 says, “And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.” But Luke 3:23 says, “And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli.”

ALL genealogical lists in Scripture are given according to the FATHER’S bloodline. There are no exceptions to this. Thus, in the above genealogies you have highlighted, one line belongs to Joseph, the other belongs to Mary – through her father. No contradiction.

“How many sons did Abraham have? Hebrews 11:17 and Genesis 22:2 tell us that he had only one son, yet Genesis 4:22, 16:15, 21:2-3 and 25:1-2 tell us that he had more than one son. [Of note: Genesis 4:22, 16:15, 21:2-3, which all said that Abraham had more than one son, come before Genesis 22:2, which tells us that he had one son.]”

The problem here is one of TRANSLATION. The Greek word often translated as ‘only begotten’ in Hebrews 11:17 is μονογενής (monogenēs). ‘Only begotten’ is an erroneous translation for this word. A better translation would be ‘unique-born’ or ‘one-of-a-kind born.’ This is the same Greek word applied to Messiah as being the ‘monogenēs’ of God. Yet God has MANY sons according to Scripture. Messiah was His unique-born; His one-of-a-kind born Son, just as Isaac was Abraham’s unique-born or one-of-a-kind born son. The apparent contradiction exists only in the translation, and not in the original Greek. Thus, no contradiction.

“What was Moses like? NUM 12:3: “Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.” Yet in Numbers 31:14-18 we’re told, “And Moses was wroth…And Moses said unto them, “Have ye saved all the women alive? … Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman, … But all the women children … keep alive for yourselves.”

On whose definition of meekness should we be basing our understanding? Your definition? Or the definition according to Scripture. Is there not such a thing as righteous anger and righteous orders to slay wickedness, according to the Will of God? To suggest that there is a contradiction here is to misunderstand the term ‘meekness’ according to the original Hebrew word עניו (‛ânâyv). Compare and contrast the term with all of its uses in the Old Testament. No contradiction.

“Anyone who’s studied Scripture knows that there are a great many contradictions in the Bible.”

This statement is false. There are NO contradictions in the Bible. If you think you’ve found a contradiction in Scripture, you need to look more closely. You need to look more deeply. You need to examine the verses in their original language. And you need to believe that the Word of God is without error or flaw of ANY kind.

“Some are the result of a clerical error — the Bible has been translated thousands of times over the centuries, so mistakes have been made — and some were probably there from the beginning.”

Translational errors have no bearing on the validity of Scripture. Translations are not the inspired Word of God.

“The thing is, we don’t have any of the original Texts in our possession, so it’s impossible to know what the originals said.”

This too is false. Diligent Scripture study over many years will lead to a powerful understanding of the texts, as originally written. Contained within the Bible are the keys for correcting any changes which have been made by man. There actually have not been that many changes made. ALL changes made are detectable and correctable.

“…but we must read the Bible with discernment.”’

Discernment is not the same thing as mistrust. You are suggesting the Bible cannot be trusted. If there is even ONE contradiction in the Bible, then the Bible is found to be in error and therefore could never be the perfect work of the Most High. But Scripture is utterly without flaw.

“To suggest that the Bibles we have today are as they were thousands of years ago, and inerrant, is simply not true.”

It is true that the newer the translation, the more problems it contains.

“God’s Word is inerrant, but the Bible is but a book written by fallible men.”

The Bible, as originally written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, is flawless and was written by authors directly inspired by the Holy Spirit. The Bible (not a translation of it) is perfect.

Any other apparent contradictions you might like to list can likewise be shown to be no contradictions at all
