The sun drops to the lowest point on horizon on 21st december, the winter solstice. It stays in that position for 3 days, in the cave, grave, tomb and then comes back to life in a resurrection on 25th. The sun is clearly higher in the sky again. It does it every year without fail, so very easy to confirm.
