The 9th of the 9th, Say What???

A reader wrote, (You posted a segulah yesterday about the 9th year after Yovel (Jubilee), the 9th month, 9th day and the 9th hour.)  “If shmitta is next year how can the jubilee year be 9 years ago???  Jubilee is one year after shmitta which would mean it comes out this year, but according to this calculation doesn’t.  Do you have an answer???”

Reb Aharon responds:

The source for this is the old, kabbalistic [pre-Ari, Ari-approved] sefer, Bris Menuchoh.

HOWEVER, it (the sefer) does not mention anything about this ninth of the ninth of the ninth, etc, business.   All it does say is that the ninth of anything (i.e month, hour) is an ‘eis rotson‘, an auspicious time. [The reason for this may be astrological.]

This ‘ninth of the ninth’ etc is, I believe, religious hyperbolics and dangerous. It has been taken out of context and developed (ad absurdum) into something, as I said, not mentioned by the author.

It is also being ‘marketed’ irresponsibly by tsedokkoh organisations. I feel they are usurping people’s trust. That is wrong and they should be apprehended.

Of course, if you planned to daven at this time, go right ahead. The gate of tears is never locked.
