THE DOCTRINE OF BLOOD ATONEMENT

By Robert Breaker

Probably the most forgotten doctrine in the entire bible, and most seldom preached on today in Christian circles, is the oh so important doctrine of the forgiveness of sins through a blood ATONEMENT.

Hebrews 9:22 clearly states: “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

God chose the only way to forgive man of his sins was through the SHEDDING OF BLOOD.  We see this clearly from the very beginning.  When Adam and Eve sinned, God rebuked them, and then he clothed them.  We read this in Genesis 3:21… “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

God must have taken an animal and right there in front of them both SLAUGHTERED it in order to make that coat of animal SKIN.  Image the horror that Adam and Eve must have felt as they watched that bloody scene.  It must have stayed with them the rest of their lives.  God was showing them that he HATED SIN so much, that the only way to be appeased was through the blood of the innocent.

We later see Abel and his brother Cain as they offered up sacrifices to God.  Cain chose to offer the FRUIT of his OWN LABOR (a type of his own works, or what HE DID), as he hoped God would accept his own gift.  But you know the story, Cain was rejected and Abel was accepted.  Why?  Because Abel offered up a LAMB, as a BLOOD SACRIFICE for his sins.

Later under the Old Testament law that God gave to Moses, we see commandments given to man on how he must sacrifice a lamb in order to be forgiven, and how that blood of that poor innocent animal had to be poured upon an altar to forgive man of his sins.

Several thousand years later, the Bible teaches that Jesus Christ –THE LAMB OF GOD– came into this world, and he came to give himself a ransom from many.  He died on the cross, shedding his own blood, in order to pay for the sins of mankind.  He was THE BLOOD ATONEMENT for ALL sins of ALL men.

The following video shows the important bible doctrine, and how salvation today is only through FAITH in the BLOOD ATONEMENT of Jesus Christ.

“God must have taken an animal and right there in front of them both SLAUGHTERED it in order to make that coat of animal SKIN.”

Animal skin? Who said anything about animal skin? When we presume the highlighted verses mean to indicate ‘animal’ of any kind has any relation to the act described, we do so only by presuming to add to the Word. Adam and Eve were clothed with skins. That’s all the Word teaches. Whereas before they both lacked these ‘skins’ – afterward they both possessed them. More than that we should not say.

“God was showing them that he HATED SIN so much, that the only way to be appeased was through the blood of the innocent.”

But isn’t this outright speculation? Of course it is. Were Adam and Eve forgiven their sins by this imagined sacrifice? No. They were not. Adam found forgiveness only once the Gospel was preached to him when Messiah descended into Paradise (which is presumably where Adam resides – if not, then he’s in Sheol/Hades, to which Messiah likewise descended to preach the Gospel, in the time He was in the Heart of the Earth immediately after His death.

“Because Abel offered up a LAMB, as a BLOOD SACRIFICE for his sins.”

I hate to do this to you brother, but you’re adding to the word again. Scripture is silent on the nature of the offerings given by Abel and Cain. Beyond the fact that offerings were given, nothing is said. The offerings could just as easily have been freewill offerings, and nothing more. A freewill offering is not the same as a sin offering. Sin offerings require blood, it is true. And if Scripture had been clear about the nature of Cain’s rejected offering being a sin offering, then your point would indeed be valid. But Abel was a keeper of the sheep (of course he was) and Cain was a tiller of the ground (also a noble endeavor, as the agricultural life is the BEST form of life for man in this world, as it has the most to teach about the Biblical Narrative). Now, Scripture says Abel brought ‘of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof.’ But Scripture only says that ‘Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.’ What is missing from the description of Cain’s offering is the properly formulated and communicated: First fruits. That opens the door to us gleaning insight without speculating and without adding to the Word. Whereas Abel’s offering was accepted because it was selected from the perfect and from the best; Cain’s offering was rejected because it was not.

“He died on the cross, shedding his own blood, in order to pay for the sins of mankind.”

      Amen.

“…salvation today is only through FAITH in the BLOOD ATONEMENT of Jesus Christ.”

      And again, Amen.

Thanks for you comments! I should have said that Adam, Eve, Abel, etc., and their sacrifices were TYPES of salvation for us today. The type is a lamb (or animal) killed in our place for our sins. That would have been clearer. Thanks again for your comment! : )

…Walter…who are you, and why do I understand your narrative so easily?
(I’ve just been informed its a sign of the times).

If The Wages Of Sin Is Death,
Did Christ Really Die In Our Place On The Cross?

Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
Isa 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
Isa 53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Christ laid down His life for our sins. Death is the penalty for sin, and that is precisely the price Christ paid in our place.

      1 Cor 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

2 Cor 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
2 Cor 5:15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

2 Cor 5:21 For he hath made him (Christ) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Rom 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Rom 6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
Rom 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
Rom 6:10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
Rom 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Th 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
1 Th 5:10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

1 Pet 2:21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
1 Pet 2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
1 Pet 2:23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
1 Pet 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

1 John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

      The Good News!

Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
