Once Saved Always Saved Is Not True; An Intimate Relationship With The Lord Is True

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Once Saved Always Saved?

We’ve all heard the term “Once saved always saved”.  It is a term used which reflects eternal security a person receives once they put their faith in Jesus as their Savior.  The way some pastors describe salvation, it makes it sound simple and easy; repeat a sentence and you are now a child of the kingdom.  Is it as simple as declaring that you need a Savior, or is there more to it?  The point to this discussion is, what is it that saves you?

I don’t believe in “Once Saved Always Saved”.  I believe in “Truly Saved Always Saved”.  Those who have an intimate relationship with the Lord are the true believers and followers of Christ.  Claiming the name of a person you spend no time with will not grant you eternal security.  Look at the following verses:

Matthew 7:21-23 – 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Revelation 2:4-7 –  4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. 5 Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. 6 But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate…..   7 To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

Revelation 3:1-5 –  1 I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. 2 Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. 3 Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.  4 Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. 5 The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels.

Revelation 3:15-16 –  15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

Matthew 25:1-13 – 1 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. 6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ 7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ 9 “ ‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. 11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ 12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ 13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

Luke 13:22-30 – 22 Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. 23 Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?” He said to them, 24 “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. 25 Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ “But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’ 26 “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’ 27 “But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’ 28 “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out. 29 People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God. 30 Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last.”

This is not about claiming the name of Jesus when you are 5 years old and then living like hell the rest of your life.  This is about making an informed decision about dedicating your life to Jesus then having an intimate relationship with Him.

What Is Required Of Us?

If we as Christians claim to know God and claim to follow Him, yet we don’t follow anything He asked us to do, then we haven’t even done the basic things that God wants us to do.  The accepted the free gift of His sacrifice, but they didn’t care enough to keep up their end of the bargain.  So the basic picture is:  people receive Jesus’ sacrifice +  no repentant heart + no will to do what God asks = no Salvation.

Jesus paid the penalty for our unrighteousness, but He never gave us a free pass for sin.  In fact, Jesus said that the law will never disappear.  The law is what we all need to understand what holiness is.

John 14:15 – “If you love me, keep my commands.

1 John 5:3 – For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.

John 14:21 – Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

John 14:23 – Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

Now, am I inferring that we need to be perfect and get to Heaven by works?  Not at all!  Will you sin?  Of course you will.  But the mark of a saved person is a person who is convicted by their sin and repents from it.  We are to turn from sin and we are to strive to live sinless lives, but that comes through time well spent with Jesus.

How about works?  Will works save us?  Not at all.  There is nothing works based that we can do to be saved.  He has to save us.

Two Types Of Christians

So there are those who trust in the Lord with all their heart and the live changed life.  There are others who think they trust in the Lord, but they are trusting on a message of free grace to cover a multitude of sins that they do not feel like giving up.  In the end, the ones with the unchanged lives will suffer:

Matthew 24:45-50 – 45 “Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 “Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes. 47 “Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48 “But if that evil slave says in his heart, ‘My master is not coming for a long time,’ 49 and begins to beat his fellow slaves and eat and drink with drunkards; 50 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour which he does not know, 51 and will cut him in pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

In those verses, we see people who know the Lord and know what He expects of us, yet were also lazy and did not meet His expectations.

Matthew 13:18-23 – 18 “Hear then the parable of the sower. 19 “When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road. 20 “The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away. 22 “And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 23 “And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.”

In those verses, we see many people excepting and believing and then falling away.

Matthew 13:36-43 -  36 Then He left the crowds and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.” 37 And He said, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man, 38 and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one; 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels. 40 “So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age. 41 “The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, 42 and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 “Then THE RIGHTEOUS WILL SHINE FORTH AS THE SUN in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

In those verses, we see both the righteous and the unrighteous in the church and God will sort them out in the end.  Both are attending the same church and both believe that they are saved.

Matthew 22:1-14 -  1 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying, 2 “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. 3 “And he sent out his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come. 4 “Again he sent out other slaves saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fattened livestock are all butchered and everything is ready; come to the wedding feast.”’ 5 “But they paid no attention and went their way, one to his own farm, another to his business, 6 and the rest seized his slaves and mistreated them and killed them. 7 “But the king was enraged, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire. 8 “Then he said to his slaves, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. 9 ‘Go therefore to the main highways, and as many as you find there, invite to the wedding feast.’ 10 “Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered together all they found, both evil and good; and the wedding hall was filled with dinner guests. 11 “But when the king came in to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes, 12 and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?’ And the man was speechless. 13 “Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ 14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

In those verses,  we see that all are invited, but it takes some effort on our part to be able to be with the Lord.

Conclusion

Please do not be fooled by anyone who says believing in Jesus is all you need to be saved.  Even the demons believe that Jesus is the Messiah:

James 2:19 – You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.

Put your faith in Jesus as your Savior and spend time with Him!  Spend time reading the Book He left for you.  Spend time praying to Him.  Spend time serving Him because He served us.

Very much like your characterization, “Truly Saved Always Saved.” The bottom line is scripture speaks to “professors who aren’t possessors,” that is speaks of those who pay lip service to the faith, but who aren’t born again of the Holy Spirit. This is why Christ doesn’t know the virgins without oil in their lamps or the “Lord, Lord” bunch. This is why you also see so much bad exegesis on the web, as there are many professors only, deceiving tares and those in cults who don’t understand Bible truth: they don’t have the Spirit. Here is a good article on saving faith, questions we need to ask ourselves:

Question: “What are some of the signs of genuine saving faith?”

Answer: This is one of the most important questions in the Christian life. Many believers doubt their salvation because they don’t see signs of genuine faith in their lives. There are those who say we should never doubt our decision to follow Christ, but the Bible encourages us to examine ourselves to see if we are truly “in the faith” (2 Corinthians 13:5). Thankfully, God has given us ample instruction for how we can know for sure that we have eternal life. The first epistle of John was actually written for that purpose, as it states in 1 John 5:13, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”

There is a series of tests in 1 John that we can use to examine ourselves and our faith. As we look at them, remember that no one will perfectly fulfill all of them all the time, but they should reveal a consistent trend that characterizes our lives as we grow in grace.

      1. Do you enjoy having fellowship with Christ and His redeemed people? (1 John 1:3)
      2. Would people say you walk in the light, or walk in the darkness? (1 John 1:6-7)
      3. Do you admit and confess your sin? (1 John 1:8)
      4. Are you obedient to God’s Word? (1 John 2:3-5)
      5. Does your life indicate you love God rather than the world? (1 John 2:15)
      6. Is your life characterized by “doing what is right”? (1 John 2:29)
      7. Do you seek to maintain a pure life? (1 John 3:3)
      8. Do you see a decreasing pattern of sin in your life? (1 John 3:5-6) [Note: this refers to not continuing in sin as a way of life, not a total absence of sin.]
      9. Do you demonstrate love for other Christians? (1 John 3:14)
      10. Do you “walk the walk,” versus just “talking the talk”? (1 John 3:18-19)
      11. Do you maintain a clear conscience? (1 John 3:21)
      12. Do you experience victory in your Christian walk? (1 John 5:4)

If you are able to truthfully answer “Yes” to these questions (or a majority of them, and are working on the others), then your life is bearing the fruit of true salvation. Jesus said that it is by our fruits that we are known as His disciples (Matthew 7:20). Fruitless branches—professing believers who do not display the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) are cut off and thrown into the fire (John 15:7). A genuine faith is one that not only believes in God (the devils themselves do that – James 2:19), but leads to open confession of sin and obedience to Christ’s commands. Remember, we are saved by grace through faith, not by our works (Ephesians 2:8-9), but our works should display the reality of our salvation (James 2:17-18). Genuine saving faith will always produce works; a faith that is perpetually without works is no faith at all and saves no one.

In addition to these confirmations, we need to remember God’s promises and the reality of the war we are in. Satan is just as real as Jesus Christ, and he is a formidable enemy of our souls. When we turn to Christ, Satan will look for every opportunity to deceive and defeat us. He will try to convince us that we are unworthy failures or that God has given up on us. When we are in Christ, we have the assurance that we are kept by Him. Jesus Himself prayed for us in John 17:11 that the Father would “protect them by the power of your name—the name you gave me—so that they may be one as we are one.” Again in verse 15, He prayed, “keep them from the evil one.”

In John 10:27-29, Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.” If you hear and obey the voice of Jesus, then you are one of His sheep, and He will never let you go. Jesus gave a wonderful word picture here of Christians securely held within His loving hands and the Father’s almighty hands wrapping themselves around His, giving us a double assurance of eternal security.

        Great comments!!!!! Nice addition!

      • they.pierced.My.hands.and.My.feet.

Really appreciate a write up using 99% quotes only from the Gospels.
Someone who can actually discuss the King, His Father, and the Kingdom without using that other guy.

Yeah, it’s great that Yehoshua has said similar to your quote that
all that Father draws shall come to Him ( Yehoshua ), and that He
will in no way cast them out.

But then further along in John, He is quoted as saying that anyone
‘in Him’ that does not bear fruit, Father will come along and sever them
from Him the Vine, and cast them into the fire.

So, eternal security is a little more than some easy believism.

        • Discreet Prepper

I would say it is a lot more than easy believism.. Our soul hangs in the balance, so we need to be on our toes. Imagine who it is we are trying to please… A holy righteous and pure God who created every thing we have ever seen. To him, holiness is a natural thing. To us, sin is. We have to start looking at things from His point of view with His direction in our heart. I so want to know Him more. God bless!

          • they.pierced.My.hands.and.My.feet.

Yeah,…. i was referring to anyone who thinks they
can just say a couple of things to Him, figure they are
“in”, and then live the rest of their lives after-their-own- selves.

    • HeartSong

Thats amazing! I never looked at it that way! It always sounded easy to just say you believe, but I was told that was the way it worked. I always thought it was an easy out for a person on their death bed to just say it (even if they didn’t believe it).

      • Discreet Prepper

Well, it all comes down to if a person was sincere and realized that they truly needed a Savior. The thief on the cross is a perfect examples of this. Obviously, he was a criminal and did something wrong. It had to be really wrong to be crucified. You might assume that he was not walking with God due to the position he was in. At the end of his life, he saw the Messiah and realized what he truly needed.

    • Bmarshalljr

I’ve always believed that. I have some verses to add…. Matthew 5:17-20 – 17 “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18“For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19“Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20“For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
      and
Matthew 22:1-14 – 1 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying, 2 “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son.

Can you be saved by faith only? Do works mean anything? The answer is in the following verses:

Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

John 10:32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Acts 9:36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.

Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

      1 Tim 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
1 Tim 2:10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

      1 Tim 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
      1 Tim 6:18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
1 Tim 6:19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

2 Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2 Tim 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
      2 Tim 4:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Tim 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
      2 Tim 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2 Tim 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2 Tim 4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
2 Tim 4:6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
Titus 2:1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

Titus 2:7 In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine showing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,
Titus 2:8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Titus 2:15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

Titus 3:14 And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

James 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
James 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
James 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.
James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
James 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
James 2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Mat 12:33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
Mat 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
Mat 12:35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
Mat 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
Mat 12:37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Luke 13:6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
Luke 13:7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?
Luke 13:8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
Luke 13:9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

Rev 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

So just as by it’s fruit, the tree is known, your faith is demonstrated by your good works, yet, you will not be saved by your works, but rather by your faith in Jesus Christ. Read the parable of the talents starting in Mat 25:14. Substitute for the talent a knowledge of salvation through Jesus (faith). If you keep this knowledge to yourself, you have buried the talent (your faith), and wasted what God has given you. You must share this faith with others, that they may also believe. Then you will multiply the talent (faith) God has given you. This is the kind of good works that must follow faith. Many may claim faith, but do they live it? If they do not, God will deny knowing them

      WARNING AGAINST A FALSE DOCTRINE

      a. How can you prove that the doctrine “Once saved, always saved” is in conflict with the Bible? 2 Peter 1:10, 11; Matthew 24:13. After Christ has saved a person from the control of evil spirits, what may happen? Luke 11:24–26.

“Self-righteousness is a curse, a human embellishment, which Satan uses for his glory. Those who garnish the soul with self-praise and flattery prepare the way for the seven other spirits more wicked than the first. In their very reception of the truth these souls deceive themselves. They are building upon a foundation of self-righteousness.”—The SDA Bible Commentary [E. G. White Comments], vol. 5, p. 1093.

      b. After Paul had been saved from the control of Satan (2 Timothy 1:9), what danger did he keep in mind? 1 Corinthians 9:26, 27. How did he warn the Hebrew Christians against the “once saved-always-saved” doctrine? Hebrews 6:4–6.

      c. What hope, based on Christ’s promise, should be held by those who accept Christ as their personal Saviour? Romans 8:24, 25; Titus 3:7. What warning should we take from Peter’s fall?

“Peter’s fall was not instantaneous, but gradual. Self-confidence led him to the belief that he was saved, and step after step was taken in the downward path, until he could deny his Master. Never can we safely put confidence in self or feel, this side of heaven, that we are secure against temptation. Those who accept the Saviour, however sincere their conversion, should never be taught to say or to feel that they are saved. This is misleading. Everyone should be taught to cherish hope and faith; but even when we give ourselves to Christ and know that He accepts us, we are not beyond the reach of temptation.”—Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 155.

“We are never to rest in a satisfied condition and cease to make advancement, saying, ‘I am saved.’ When this idea is entertained, the motives for watchfulness, for prayers, for earnest endeavor to press onward to higher attainments, cease to exist. No sanctified tongue will be found uttering these words till Christ shall come, and we enter in through the gates into the city of God.”—Selected Messages, bk1, p. 314.

” The point to this discussion is, what is it that saves you? ”

All the evidence proves that when the sh*t hit’s the fan, you’re on your own. Only you can save you. History also shows that usually involves looting and pillaging from the weak. If you have some other alternative evidence that says otherwise, I’ll be glad to examine it.

In the natural world and throughout human history, being good towards strangers is a luxury you can’t afford. It’s only when conditions are good that we can afford to be good. But we live on an ever changing dynamic planet with a million and one ways of ending our lives before their time. That is the reality of our situation. If you believe Earth was all knowingly thus deliberately created that way, it says the deity that created it is complete and utter evil bastard.
