What the Bible Says about Eating Meat: A Bible Study

By Robert Breaker

We live in weird and crazy times!  Not only do we have nutty new age people going vegan, screaming that we shouldn’t eat meat, but we also now have people who claim to be “Christians” who are saying that eating meat is not what we as Christians should do.  But is that right?  For both groups I did a bible study and went through the entire Bible to show:  What THE BIBLE says about eating meat.   Maybe this will finally put to rest the subject and will prove without any shadow of a doubt that eating meat is not “sin” nor is it “murder.”  Rather it’s simply enjoying something that God gave us to enjoy!

      Vegetarianism: Supported in the Bible

The Bible has many quotations within it that can be used for both supporting meat-eating as well as against it, so people can argue either way while using quotes from the Bible. Thus, it is basically a rather inconclusive text for deciding such issues. However, those verses that support a vegetarian lifestyle are often ignored or are unknown, so we will review a few of these as can be seen from the following: “But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it.” (Genesis 9.4-5) Certainly we can see in this verse that no one was meant to live by eating the flesh and blood of others. If one did so, then he would have to pay with his own blood, as it says, “your blood of your lives will I require.” This is merely a reference to the law of karma: for every animal who suffers because of you, you will also similarly suffer: “at the hand of every beast will I require it.”

“To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? Saith the Lord: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of goats. When ye spread forth your hands, I will hide Mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear, for your hands are full of blood.” (Isaiah 1.11,15) Some people may say that this merely directs the types of offerings that God will not accept, but here the words used are “sacrifices” and “burnt offerings” and “fed beasts,” which should be fairly clear to anyone that it is not the animal specifically, but the use of animals which is objectionable.

“It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood. (Leviticus 3.17). . . And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of strangers who sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set My face against that soul that eateth blood.” (Leviticus 17.10)

From these verses and others not included here, we can certainly see that God’s law, as set down in the Bible, was against the eating of flesh and blood and the killing of other entities. However, there are some people who try to legitimize the eating of meat by draining the blood and, thus, make the meat “kosher.” Of course, this idea doesn’t really work. Blood permeates meat, so how can one be free from eating blood by trying to drain it from the flesh? This is not very realistic, and it certainly does not free one from the violence that must be inflicted on the animal when it is killed in order to eat its flesh. The real point of the matter is not to kill. This is clearly stated in Exodus (20.13) in the Hebrew lo tirtzach, which, when accurately translated, means “thou shalt not kill.”

In fact, the Bible compares the killing of cows to murdering a man: “He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man.” (Isaiah 66.3)

      INACCURATE TRANSLATIONS

There are a few verses, however, which I am sure some students of the Bible will reach for that seem to support the eating of flesh. But in every case, this is due to inaccurate translations as we shall see.

For example, in John (4.8) it states: “For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.” The word meat was taken from the Greek word trophe, which actually means nourishment. This is exactly the same case in Acts (9.19): “And when he had received meat, he was strengthened.” When translated accurately it means that by receiving nourishment, he felt stronger.

In Luke (8.55) we find, “And her spirit came again and she arose straightaway: and he (Jesus) commanded to give her meat.” The word meat in this case was translated from the Greek word phago, which translated correctly simply means to eat.

In I Corinthians (8.8) it states: “But meat commendeth us not to God, for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither if we eat not, are we the worse.” The word for meat here is broma, which actually means food. Therefore, this verse signifies that eating or not eating food has little to do with our relationship to God and not, as some people think, that eating meat holds no wrong.

In Romans (14.20-21) the verses are: “For meat destroy not the word of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor anything whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.” The word for meat here is broma, which again is a general word that means foods, and the word for flesh is kreas, which does mean flesh. Therefore, this verse is another that is not necessarily supportive of eating meat, but makes it clear that flesh eating is unacceptable.

In Acts 27:33-36 we also find it said, “And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying this is the fourteenth day ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing. Wherefore I pray you to take some meat; for this is your health; for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you. And when he had thus spoken, he took bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat. Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.”

All three times the word meat was used in the above quote, it was based on the Greek word trophe, which actually means nourishment. Even though the translation says meat, is shows clearly what they all took was the bread for nourishment after Paul took it.

In Acts 16:34, it also says, “And when he brought them into his house, he set meat before them and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.” In this case, the word meat is taken from the Greek word trapeza, which actually means table. So a table was set before them, not slices of dead animals.

One last example is found in Luke 11:37, “And as he (Jesus) spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.” The word meat here was taken from the Greek word anepesen, which simply means reclined. So the verse actually should say that Jesus went in, sat down and relaxed.

      THE RIGHT THINGS TO EAT

If the Bible explains that eating meat is wrong, then what is the proper thing to eat? Genesis (1.29) clearly states: “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” This makes it quite obvious that the recommended food for human beings is herbs, seeds, grains, and fruits.

We also find in Isaiah (7.14-15): “Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a young woman shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.” The first verse is often quoted by Christians for proof that Jesus was the savior, but the next verse shows that he will be a vegetarian to know the difference between right and wrong.

As mentioned earlier, meat-eating is a sign of spiritual ignorance, meaning that we do not recognize the spiritual essence of all creatures, and tends to keep one from developing compassion and mercy towards our fellow living entities. To be merciful only to man and yet be an enemy to animals by killing and eating them is Satan’s philosophy. One will never live in true harmony with God while performing such activities. This is often overlooked by the Christians, Muslims, and others. If these verses were actually understood and the meaning fully realized and practically applied by the Christians and others, I am sure it would bring beneficial reactions the world over in their spiritual development. After all, one of the ten commandments specifically says thou shalt not kill. It does not say merely thou shalt not murder, which would imply only humans, but it says “Thou shalt not kill,” meaning any living being.

      Is Eating Meat a Sin?

I will leave that between you and God. Consider these quotes:

“…if they could see the animals when living and know the quality of the meat they eat, they would turn from it with loathing. People are continually eating flesh that is filled with tuberculous and cancerous germs. Tuberculosis, cancer, and other fatal diseases are thus communicated.” MH 313

“When men take any course which needlessly expends their vitality or beclouds their intellect, they sin against God…” CDF 118

“…meat eating deranges the system, beclouds the intellect, and blunts the moral sensibilities.” 2T 64

“Meat eating…has always been a curse to the human family…, and our only safety now is in leaving meat entirely alone.” CDF 412

“Concerning flesh meat we can all say, Let it alone.” CDF 430

“Those who believe present truth…should refuse to eat flesh meat.” EV 265

“Many who are now only half converted on the question of meat eating will go from God’s people to walk no more with them.” CDF 382

“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” James 4:17

The Original Diet (In Genesis (1:29) we find God’s original diet for man)

“Again and again I have been shown that God is bringing His people back to His original design, that is, not to subsist upon the flesh of dead animals. He would have us teach people a better way.” TSDF 69

“If meat is discarded, if the taste is not educated in that direction, if a liking for fruits and grains is encouraged, it will soon be as God in the beginning designed it should be. No meat will be used by His people.” TSDF 125.

“God gave our first parents the food He designed that the race should eat. It was contrary to His plan to have the life of any creature taken. There was to be no death in Eden….” CDF 81

      Pure Vegetarianism

1868 “Cheese should never be introduced into the stomach.” 2T 68

1883 “All the elements of nutrition are contained in the fruits, vegetables, and grains.” HL 96

1889 “Years ago I had a testimony of reproof for the managers in our campmeetings bringing upon the ground and selling to our people cheese and other hurtful things.” CD 329

1890 “The effect of cheese is deleterious.” CH 114

1896 “The simple grains, fruits of the trees, and vegetables have all the nutritive properties necessary to make good blood.” HL 98

1898 “In a short time the milk of the cows will also be excluded from the diet of God’s commandment-keeping people in a short time it will not be safe to use anything that comes from the animal creation.” CD 411

1899 “The light given me is that it will not be very long before we shall have to give up using any animal food. Even milk will have to be discarded.” CD 384

1901 “The time may come when it will not be safe to use milk…. The time will come when we may have to discard some of the articles of diet we now use, such as milk and cream and eggs…. The time will come when milk cannot be used as freely as it is now used…. But I wish to say that when the time comes that it is no longer safe to use milk, cream, butter, and eggs, God will reveal this…. We see that cattle are becoming greatly diseased, the earth itself is corrupted, and we know that the time will come when it will not be best to use milk and eggs.” CD 357-9

1902 “Let the diet reform be progressive. Let the people be taught how to prepare food without the use of milk or butter. Tell them that the time will soon come when there will be no safety in using eggs, milk, cream, or butter, because disease in animals is increasing in proportion to the increase of wickedness among men.” 7T135

1903 “Vegetables, fruits, and grains should compose our diet. Not an ounce of flesh meat should enter our stomachs.” CD 380

1905 “Cheese is… objectionable; it is wholly unfit for food.” MH 302

1905 “Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator…. The grains, with fruits, nuts, and vegetables, contain ALL the nutritive properties necessary to make good blood…. The diet reform should be progressive. As disease in animals increases, the use of milk and eggs will become more and more unsafe… The people everywhere should be taught how to cook without milk and eggs, so far as possible, and yet have their food wholesome and palatable.” MH 296, 316, 320-1

1906 “In grains, fruits, vegetables, and nuts are to be found ALL the food elements that we need.” CDF 92, 310, 313

1909 “The time will come when we may have to discard some of the articles of diet we now use, such as milk and cream and eggs…” 9T162

The last few words in the Counsels of Diet and Foods appendix, are those of James White regarding the counsels on health given to his wife: “…all changes in diet should be made carefully, one at a time. And while she [his wife, Ellen White] would say this to those who are in danger of making changes too rapidly, she would also say to the tardy, Be sure and not forget to change.”

Scripture says that you are to “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). It is my hope and prayer that you will do just that.

Unscriptural analysis, Amminadab. Advocating for veganism is not in accord with the Word.

After the Restoration of All Things, it is almost a certainty that consuming animals or animal-based products will no longer be done. But it is unwise and premature to suggest we should adopt this major change at the present. There are myriad reasons to believe that our bodies need animal protein in order to maintain optimal health, and there is nothing in Scripture to forbid our eating. All we need to look into is what the Apostles themselves ate.

        Colossians 2:16

Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new month or a Sabbath.

        • Amminadab

Colossians 2 is talking about the shadow/antitype festivals and ordinances of Moses.

          Not about eating flesh.

            Amminadab,

            When Paul says:

“…let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink…”

…we do not need you or anyone else to explain to us what he meant.

His meaning is most clear to everyone without an agenda contrary to the Word of God.

            • Amminadab

Colossians 2:14-16 “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; [sin] 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink [offerings], or in respect of an holyday [feast], or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:”

The ordinances (ceremonial law) was practised because of sin. Compare:

Ezekiel 45:17 “And it shall be the prince’s part to give burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and drink offerings, in the feasts [holyday], and in the new moons, and in the sabbaths, in all solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meat offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make reconciliation for the house of Israel.”

            • BEEF SUPREME

“The ordinances (ceremonial law) was practised because of sin.”

No argument from me on that point. Amminadab, you are ignoring the points I make and talking past me. This is a clear-cut case. This is not open to interpretation. This is as EASY as it gets – and it only gets harder from here. If you botch this simply because you have ideas which do not gel with the Word, then you have virtually no hope when it comes to extracting the more difficult messages from Scripture.

This is 101. And you are working very hard to fail.

There is no prohibition against our eating clean meat in this age. If you are an animal lover or have other reasons for wishing things were different – just wait for the LORD. Things will be different.

But right now, in this evil world, we still get to eat grilled ribeye with melted butter. But stay the hell away from those nasty pigs. A pig is not fit for human consumption. As you no doubt agree.

      • BEEF SUPREME

Leaving aside agendas, perhaps you can explain this:

        Thus Paul, 1 Corinthians 8:13

Therefore, IF (notice the IF, Amminadab) food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat MEAT to the end of the age, lest I make my brother stumble.

MEAT = κρέα – (noun, accusative neuter plural) Short Definition: flesh, kinds of flesh. Definition: flesh; plur: pieces of flesh, kinds of flesh.

Does it come any clearer than that? Paul eats meat. That is to say, he eats flesh. He says he would STOP eating flesh until the end of the age, if his eating caused a brother to stumble.

The Apostles were meat eaters, Amminadab.

Take a swing. How do you answer this objection to your claim?

        • Amminadab

1 Corinthians 8 “Now concerning the eating of things SACRIFICED TO IDOLS, we know that there is no such thing as an idol in the world, and that there is no God but one…however not all men have this knowledge; but some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat food AS IF IT WERE SACRIFICED TO AN IDOL; and their conscience being weak is defiled. But food will not commend us to God; we are neither the worse if we do not eat, or the better if we do eat. But take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. For if someone sees you, who have knowledge, dining in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be strengthened to eat things sacrificed to idols? For through your knowledge he who is weak is ruined, the brother for whose sake Christ died. And thus, by sinning against the brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat [food] again, that I might not cause my brother to stumble.”

Now you’re just playing games with me.

            Observe closely:

            1 Corinthians 8:13

Therefore, if FOOD makes my brother stumble, I will never eat MEAT, lest I make my brother stumble.

Now you are pretending not to notice the difference between these two words. I know you are pretending because the OTHER word destroys your argument and I know you aren’t really this careless.

FOOD = βρῶμα (brōma) – which as you show above, does not translate as meat, despite the KJV translators archaic assertion that it does.

MEAT = κρέα (krea), not brōma, as I already showed above. Go look it up, Amminadab. And stop pretending to be uncomprehending of Paul’s clear words.

Because Paul says something which is INIMICAL to your argument, should cause you to reconsider your argument – not dig in your heels and look for a way around it all. Are you a follower of the Word, or are teacher of false doctrine?

According to the writings of the Early Church Fathers, Jesus, his brother James, the Apostle Peter, and the other disciples were vegetarians. We read also in Aramaic Matthew, that Jesus would not eat the traditional Passover meal, which of course contained meat. According to the church historian “Hegesipppus”, St. James, the brother of Jesus, was, “holy from his mother’s womb; and he drank no wine nor strong drink, nor did he eat flesh.”

In the “Clementine Homilies”: St. Peter wrote “I live on bread alone, with olives, and seldom even with pot-herbs; and my dress is what you see, a tunic with a pallium: and having these, I require nothing more.”

Further, one ancient church writing containing the teachings of St. Peter, states: “The unnatural eating of flesh meats is as polluting as the heathen worship of devils, with its sacrifices and its impure feasts, through participation in it man becomes a fellow eater with devils.” We should also note, that Clement of Alexander said: “The apostle Matthew partook of seeds, and nuts, and vegetables, without flesh.”

St Basilius the Great claimed: “The body which is burdened with meat is afflicted with diseases. A moderate way of living makes the body healthier and stronger and cuts off the root of evil. The stream of meat meals darkens the light of the spirit. One can hardly have virtue if one enjoys meat meals and feasts.” St. Gregory of Nazianzen says: “The debauchery in meat meals is an infamous injustice.” The apostle Thomas was also a vegetarian as we see when we read the following from the Acts of Thomas: “That which he eateth is bread and salt, and his drink is water from evening unto evening,…” Other apostles are recorded as having also been vegetarians. In fact, the evidence reveals that all the early Christians were vegetarians. Paul, as said earlier, was of course reluctant at first, according to scripture, though he finally came around to accept and understand the rational behind this consistent Nazirene doctrine.

Doctrine espoused by the Essenes (who were Gnostics, by the way) and the Ascetics has no bearing whatsoever on this conversation. The topic is WHAT (THE) BIBLE SAYS ABOUT EATING MEAT.

The topic is not what the Gnostic and Ascetic vegetarians would have us to believe.

Let’s take a look at the verses in the order you listed them:

            Isaiah 7:15

He shall eat curds and honey when He knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good.

This verse from the prophecy of the coming Messiah intends to show that the Child will be of an exceptionally young age by the time His wisdom has become profound. Children of a young age – eating curds and honey – generally have not the slightest notion of choosing between good and evil. So there is nothing in this verse, either implied or explicit, about vegetarianism.

            Genesis 1:29

And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.

This verse (and time-period) always factors into the vegetarian advocate’s argument. Here’s the problem: While in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve DID NOT eat meat. Animals were not slaughtered for sacrifice or for food. It was only afterward, after the fall – perhaps even after Noah’s Ark settled upon the mountains of Ararat – that the meat-eating provision was instituted. For now we eat meat, as the Word makes clear. One day again, we will not, but that time is not yet here.

            John 6:56

Whoever feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.

Mattrick – if there is something about vegetarianism in this verse, I have no idea what it might be. Perhaps you would describe it to me.

            Matthew 15:11

“…it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.

And again, I find nothing here even remotely connected with the vegetarian argument.

I do not hold a vegetarian outlook on things, and was not trying to support it. and do not believe the bible suggests it.
              It did work for Daniel
It was after midnight when I posted.
In Isaiah I see more ( or read into it more ) about the curds and honey.
In John I was getting at the real presence in the Eucharist.
              Luke 22: 19

Beef, You have been BEAT… Eating Corpses is a heinous sin..

You already admitted the beginning and end are Meat-FREE.. Obviously GOD doesn’t want us to eat it…

I will not use Paul’s arguments, as many texts call Paul a “Spouter of Lies”…

Amminadab is absolutely correct. He has Eyes to see, and hears the voice of the shepherd. But you Beef, you pack with the wolves and partake in the fruit of blood and death.

              sussy,

Did Jesus Christ eat clean meats?
Did the Apostles eat clean meats–

              yes.

If you really look at this just from the physical creation you will find animals that God created to be eaten have very limited mental abilities and no personalities.

Fish just eat, swim and lay eggs.
Elephants are intelligent and from what I have read good memories.
Dogs, do I need to go further? Adam is said to have named the dog; friend.

Cows are dumber then dirt and sheep are not much better.

So what do we find; those animals not to be eaten have personalities and some smarts –

Those created to be eaten are just eating machines.
Chicken are clearly stupid and I love how they taste.

I have been around farm animals all my life. I have witnesses of what I speak.

Dumping your scorn on Beef Supreme 20 odd days after this debate has ended only serves to reveal your agenda, Sussy, given that this thread is no longer on the front page and has to be searched for.

Paul a spouter of lies? I don’t think so. Amminadab completely failed to answer Beef’s biblically supported position and i bet you won’t be able to either.

According to WHAT passage, chapter or verse in canon Scripture?

“Obviously GOD doesn’t want us to eat it…”

Then you haven’t read the Bible. It really is that simple.

“I will not use Paul’s arguments, as many texts call Paul a “Spouter of Lies”…”

There is nothing in canon Scripture which calls Paul a liar. So which texts are you talking about? But leave Paul aside and you still have the Old Testament and the Gospels to contend with, which makes any argument that meat (flesh of clean animals) has been deemed unlawful to eat, an indefensible argument. Again, we do not need the writings of Paul to make a slam-dunk scriptural case that eating clean meats is perfectly acceptable according to the Word of God. All arguments to the contrary are easily shown to be in error.

“Amminadab is absolutely correct. He has Eyes to see, and hears the voice of the shepherd. But you Beef, you pack with the wolves and partake in the fruit of blood and death.”

Support your charges with Scripture or take your place among the false witnesses.

Beef- Even the sparrow (which is worthless to humans) will be remembered by GOD. Not 1 goes forgotten..

YES I think the bible is corrupted.. GOD was super angry at the scribes and Israelites for corrupting his laws..

I can list many many 1st century church leaders who knew darn well eating meat was forbidden. So much so, Pharisee Paul had to stand against them and preach opposing doctrine to Jesus’..

And truthseeker, you are so beat…. We know animals weren’t created to be eaten.. It says right in the bible humans were designed to eat PLANTS.. And NO Jesus NEVER are meat or fish.. The image of perfection does not eat rotting putrid corpses.. This is another lie of the bible.. There are several references (including Clement of Rome) who confirmed ALL Apostles were vegetarian.

Problem is, you zombie corpse eaters only recognize the corrupted book of the pharisees (endorsed by the Pope) for your knowledge.

As Jeremiah said- BEHOLD, The Lying Hand Of The Scribes Made God’s Laws Into A LIE…

“YES I think the bible is corrupted.. GOD was super angry at the scribes and Israelites for corrupting his laws…”

And yet, you will call on the verses of the Bible which suit your purposes and seem to support your position? Why is that, Sussy? Do you imagine yourself capable of determining which verses have, in your opinion, been corrupted from those which have not? You do see the glaring inconsistency of your argument, don’t you?

“I can list many many 1st century church leaders who knew darn well eating meat was forbidden.”

So list them. First century church leaders who agree with you. And while you’re at it, list the evidence (in quotation or citation) which you feel confirms your belief. (I’ll be honest with you – I won’t be expecting anything from you on this. This is an empty boast you make. Now you’ve been called on it.)

“So much so, Pharisee Paul had to stand against them and preach opposing doctrine to Jesus’…”

And again, while you’re at it, show me where Paul contradicted anything Messiah the KING taught or preached. (I’ll save you the trouble – you can do no such thing.)

“And NO Jesus NEVER are meat or fish…”

And with what did He feed the thousands?

“There are several references (including Clement of Rome) who confirmed ALL Apostles were vegetarian.”

Why do you believe the writings of one man over the writings of another? Why if, as you say, the Bible has been altered to reflect disciples and apostles eating meat and teaching about eating meat (that is, flesh), would you believe the words of someone who came after, who has just as much reason to bend the Word of God to suit his own purposes? Inconsistent, Sussy. Very inconsistent.

On the one hand you accuse the Word of God:

“Problem is, you zombie corpse eaters only recognize the corrupted book of the pharisees (endorsed by the Pope) for your knowledge.”

And on the other hand you hold up the Word of God when you feel like it:

“As Jeremiah said- BEHOLD, The Lying Hand Of The Scribes Made God’s Laws Into A LIE…”

Either the Word of God is corrupt or it is not. Your argument leaves you with nothing upon which to stand but your own opinion and imagination.

The bible makes no comment about what you should be eating, but does comment on what you shouldn’t eat, in particular shell fish and pork as being unclean. Mostly because pigs were not penned and will eat anything, dog poop, dead bodies for example. There is no reason to ban shell fish in countries that are temperate or icy, but I can see why they would ban it in hot countries with no means of keeping it fresh.. it goes off rather quickly.
