The Contrast Between Abraham and Mary the Mother of Jesus

(Before It's News)

I have been thinking about Abraham and Mary the mother of Jesus, and realized that God put much more pressure and stress on Abraham than he did Mary.

Abraham didn’t understand God telling him to kill his son on an alter, but he did know that God made a Covenant with him and He was able to raise up his son Isaac, even from the dead.  And Mary being a virgin is what God expects from all of His single male and female children.  So Joseph and Mary being virtuous, moral and Godly is God’s norm for His people in the 1st and 21 Century (no exception).

Consider a farmer who goes to his barn in search of a pig and a chicken.  This farmer has talking animals.  So he tells the pig and chicken that a very good friend has arrived from a long journey and is very hungry and tells these animals that he would like them to volunteer to provide ham and eggs for his famished friend.  The chicken is very enthusiastic about this request and looks forward to blessing his friend with her eggs.  The pig, on the other hand is very reluctant and sad that the farmer is requesting such a commitment that demands the “Ultimate sacrifice” of obedience and love to the farmer.

Mary is like the chicken, and is not making any great or unusual sacrifice like the pig; nor is her actions causing her Son’s death, but she is like all virgins (male and female) who are just making good moral choices in life that help them avoid guilt, shame, punishment and unplanned or unwanted pregnancies.

The bottom line:  Equate God’s moral sexual purity law as the “Norm” for all humans.  If Mary the mother of Jesus filled-out a job application and stated on the form that she is a virgin; no one would care then or now.  Joseph and Mary were not perfect; and the sins they did, and you and I “Do committed” is what separates us from God.  Mary called Jesus her “Savior”, ONLY SINNERS NEED A SAVIOR!!!

Sincerely,

  • a very poorly written piece. mary was not under as much pressure? huh. read your bible again, and maybe it will come to you. Joseph was promised to Mary in marriage, and she became pregnant while still a virgin. Everyone who was told this news was convinced she had committed adultery and in those times, she could have been stoned to death. joseph had his worries too, how was he going to marry a woman who was pregnant, and he knew that child wasnt his. The Lord sent His messengers to those in the know, but try telling such a story to unbelievers. I saw an angel. the angel said…. uh huh. loony bin for you….
Mary knew what God intended for her son, His Son…..no pressure, eh? ever lost a child? did it hurt? does it still hurt?
Abraham and Mary, sin born adults whose hearts were for the Lord God Almighty, both sacrificed their children, willing but pained, because they trusted their God. go figure, no pressure? pfft

    • Hello Teresa:

A Christian Jewish lady let me know that the virgin birth was added to our Christian Bible. Pagan religions and Greek Mythology already taught the virgin birth, long before Jesus was born. Joseph and Mary telling anyone that God got Mary pregnant would be very impractical.

No one needed to know whom Jesus is until Jesus is 30 years old (when his ministry starts). Jesus had a normal childhood, teenage years and adult years. Jesus never did a miracle until he was 30 and no one worshiped him until he started doing miracles when he was 30.

Teresa, your conception and birth is just as miraculous as a virgin birth; because God is doing the miracle and His miracles do not have any degree of difficulty. Read my other essays and you will better understand why the Catholics added, deleted or changed what is in our Bible.

The Protestant Reformation is proof that the Bible was changed in order to promote what the pagans already believe.

      Sincerely,
