Is Pergatory a Real Place.

Some religious people believe that after we die the soul needs to go through pergatory where it is further cleansed before it can be in the presence of the holiness of God.  They are in pergatory for varying lengths of time depending on how much cleansing is necessary.  Their loved ones can pay to have a Special Mass performed for them to speed up the process.  That is sort of how it all works.  But is this what the Bible teaches?

The Bible teaches that no one can go to heaven unless their sins have been forgiven.  Jesus provided the way for this to happen by dying on the cross for every human being, but it’s only those who repent and ask him to forgive them that are forgiven.  And it’s not an insurance policy, it’s a lifestyle change.  It’s when you decide to do things God’s way instead of Your way.   After this, there is no further cleansing needed.  Unbelievers on the other hand don’t have their sins forgiven so they have to pay for their own sins.  This happens after the 1000 year reign of Christ at the judgment where they come alive, have their day in court, and are sentenced to the lake of fire for the length of time that their sins deserve, after which they perish and exist no more.  So in a sense their time in the lake of fire could be compared to pergatory, but the outcome is different.  

Some religions teach that after pergatory a person is ready to meet God but the Bible teaches that after their time in the lake of fire they perish.  Obviously they can’t both be right, so it’s up to you who you want to believe.  However, your eternal destiny depends on your getting it right.  As for me, I believe that the Bible is the ultimate truth.  God does not lie so we can depend on the promises of the Bible.  For example the Bible teaches that “unless a man is born again he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.”  If we believe that to be true, then we need to make sure we are born again if we want to go to heaven.  If you are not sure, you can be by clicking HERE.
