FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (May 3, 2013) – Floridians with suspended or revoked driver’s licenses due to unpaid traffic tickets or the accumulation of too many points may still be able to drive to and from work, school, or church, by obtaining what’s called a “hardship license.”  Fort Lauderdale attorney Guy Seligman has three decades of experience helping clients maneuver through the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles, many times getting his clients back on the road.

”With the help of a hardship license, drivers can transport themselves to certain restricted places,” explains Guy.  “There are two kinds of hardship licenses: one for business purposes and one for employment purposes. The hardship license for business purposes restricts one to driving to and from work, necessary driving as a part of the job, driving for educational purposes, driving to and from church, and driving for medical purposes.  The license for employment purposes restricts one to driving to and from work and necessary driving as part of the job, only.

There are many reasons a driver could receive a suspended license, such as failure to pay child support, failure to appear for summons, or inadequate vision. A schedule of points violations suspensions and the length of the suspension are as follows:

12 points in 12 months: 30 day suspension.

18 points in 18 months: Three month suspension.

24 points in 36 months: 12 month suspension.
