Online Dating Misconceptions

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Although online dating, or cyber dating is one of the most popular ways people look for a life partner, many people still are hesitant to try it. This is, in large part, due to many existing social stigmas about the practice. What most of these people aren’t realizing is that these stigmas associated with cyber dating are not relevant anymore. Meeting someone online is an awesome experience, and everyone should try it. I will attempt to help you push aside these common misconceptions so you can move forward, try new things, and hopefully find true love.

People who go on Internet dating sites are losers. This stems from the ideas that people turn to virtual dating only because they can’t manage to get a date in real life – for reasons such as looks, personality, or anything else people generally don’t like. However, contrary to popular belief, many – not all – individuals you meet in the cyber world are those whom are extremely successful in their careers and just do not have the time to meet a hundred different people who aren’t worth their time. These people are human just like us, so they too want love in their life. Therefore, they choose to meet others online because it fits into their lives. Nevertheless, there are ‘losers’ online, but they are also at the bars you go to or anywhere else you look for a date. With online dating, however, it is much easier to ignore them.

Internet dating is the equivalent of the meat market. You may feel this way because you are thinking, all he or she does is check out my picture and decide hit or miss, without look at my profile. Although this is true, it is EXACTLY the same in real life, which is why before leaving the house, you stand in front of the mirror for fifteen minutes. However, online, there is an enormous amount of people, some of which WILL read your profile, giving Internet dating the upper hand. After all, a good personality is what makes you attractive.

Once you found a match, you can stop looking. This misconception isnt really stopping you from jumping into the online dating world, however, if you believe this, it is hindering the possibility of success, which is why I have included it here. Just as with dating in real life, it involves putting in time and effort. And, it can still turn out unsuccessful. Remember, until someone is committed to one person, they are still ‘shopping’. This concept is exactly the same online. Just because you found a match, and have been talking to that person for a while, do not assume you are the only one they are talking to. It would be great if the ‘matching systems’ on these websites partnered us up with our one and only soul mate, but this is not the case. So, just as you would keep yourself open to the options in real life, make yourself available online the same way.

Now that we have discusses the misconceptions related to Internet dating, and I shows you that it is, in fact, better than searching in real life, it is time for you to give it a try. You are online a click away from finding true happiness and love.
