Gun Control?

Is it time for gun control?

In the United States, the right to keep and bear arms is codified in the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. The text of the amendment reads:

A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

During my 12 years in the US Army, I served with OPFOR (Opposing Forces) for part of my stint in the Army. I fired all of the following weapons: M-60, Russian AK-47, AKS (Chinese Modified Version of the AK-47), M-16, .45, .32, .44, .22, SVD Sniper Rifle, 30 Odd 6 aka 30-06 Springfield and many other weapons. If I wore my glasses, I fired ‘expert’ and when we had weapon firing competitions, the ‘Bionic’ Colonel at Fort Hood, Texas would always encourage me to participate in these competitions. Yes, I enjoyed firing these weapons.

When I got out of the service, I decided not to own a weapon. The reason being, is that my son growing up, may one day find the weapon and accidently discharge the weapon. This may sound like a lame excuse for not owning a weapon, but this was my reasoning.

I believe that before anyone can own a weapon, that they need to be subjected to a strenuous psychological test. If they pass the test, then they will be allowed to own a weapon. There is only two problems with this ownership. Even though the owner of the gun passed his or her psychological test, their children or wife/husband may have psychological problems, get a hold of the weapon and shoot up the neighborhood. Another scenario is that their home is burglarized and the burglars steal their guns and shoot up the neighborhood. We’re back to square one.

All I remember is that back in 1982, the whole year of 82 in South Korea, there were only 2 murders. One by strangulation, one by knife, because at the time, South Korean citizens were not allowed to own guns, if they owned a gun, it was a felony. I believe that Adam Lanza, the Sandy Hook Elementary School Mass Murderer would have had a hard time killing 26 people with a knife or knives, but it was easy for him to kill 26 people with his guns.

Many killers have been known to play violent video games. Adam Lanza was no exception to the rule. He enjoyed playing Call of Duty for hours, see article below:

I believe these games desensitizes a killer and it prepares them to easily go on a killing spree and think nothing of it. Video games like Halo 4, Call of Duty or any other shooting games, should be restricted to ALL minors.
