White House Admits They Knew Of IRS Scandal But Did Nothing

The White House admits they knew about the IRS targeting activists but did nothing while claiming the IRS apology for the scandal isn’t an admission of guilt.

White House spokesman Jay Carney was repeatedly hammered during today’s press conference about the 3 scandals that the Obama administration is scrambling to explain away.

It wasn’t just Fox today, or a just a few other media outlets, but every single reporter on the floor.

During the conference Carney just repeated the same answers to almost every question to side step the reporters questions.

Shockingly left-wing MSNBC anchor Chuck Todd was able to push Carney to give one of the few direct answers that was given in a damning admission that the White House knew about the targeting of political activists by the IRS but did nothing about it.

Spokesman Jay Carney said some at the White House “were aware” of reports that IRS was targeting conservatives, but that nobody bothered to do anything about it:

“I still don’t quite understand the timeline,” said MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, about the IRS scandal. “We had members of Congress complaining about this for two years. Did it just never reach you guys here at the White House that there was these complaints that conservative groups felt they were being singled out and targeted?”

“I’m sure people were aware of and knew some of the stories that had been reported about the complaints, but we were not aware of any activity or of any review conducted by the inspector general until several weeks ago,” Carney responded.

Todd replied, “Should you have been made aware sooner? I don’t understand.”

“Let’s just say that — well, first of all for all the reasons why distance between — you know, why the IRS should not be politicized, you know, there has to be that distance. But on the specific question that you had, I want to wait and see what the report says and wait and see what we actually know happened and what the facts are before we comment beyond what the president said yesterday on this matter and before we make any decisions or pronouncements about what actions should be taken. I mean, you heard the president say what he believed and what he feels what is reported about specific targeting turned out to be true. But we need to see if that’s actually the case,” Carney said.

During the conference Carney continued to refused to comment on the DOJ’s targeting of scores of Associated Press journalists during which reporters secretly had their work, cell, and home phone calls monitored and intercepted claiming the White House knew nothing about the investigation and can not comment on the ongoing investigation.

Adding a twist of Orwellian irony, Carney went on to explain that while the White House was aware they still have not received the report issued by an independent investigator into the IRS targeting of activists.

This was despite the fact the White House has known about the existence of the report for several weeks.

Those targeted were tea party groups and other patriot groups flagged simply because they had names like freedom or liberty in their organizations names.

While FOX is spinning the targeting as an assault against conservatives the crusade was in fact much broader and included liberal activist organizations, including pro-Israel organizations.

After admitting the White House knew for years about the targeting of activists for years and the existence of an Inspector General report for roughly 2 weeks Carney hit the press with a bout of Orwellian doublespeak claiming that just because the IRS apologized for their activities doesn’t mean they did anything wrong.

Watch: While dodging questions from reporters the White House claims just because the IRS  apology for targeting activists isn’t evidence of guilt.

Instead Carney insisted the facts are still not known and the White House simply has no knowledge of the depth or scope of the targeting, IF it occurred at all.

“If I could then goo back to the IRS issue,” said a reporter from the AP. “The president did use the word ‘if these activities had taken place,’ but there has been an acknowledgement on the part of the IRS leadership that these things did indeed occur. I wondered why the president used that phrasing in claiming that it was outrageous?”

“Those from the IRS that have spoken about this obviously have much greater insight into what took place than we do. We have not seen the report. We have not independently collected information about what transpired. We need the independent inspector general’s report to be released before we can make judgments. One person’s view of what actions were taken or what that individual did is not enough for us to say something concretely happened that was inappropriate,” said Carney.

Surely these sinister details while surely be kept from the headlines because the corporate media is nothing more than a government controlled media parrot.

Instead, the media will continue to run damage control for the administration and potray Obama in a broad light.
