Eugenics in a Bowl of Corn Flakes

It’s the study, or more like the belief of ideal human genetic characteristics. The best practitioners that applied the concept were the German Nazis during World War II. They proclaimed being the descendants of a pure race called the Aryans. Selecting those with blue eyes and blond hair to physically identify traits of perfection. As you all already know, the Jews were categorized as impure and unfit to live among humans. Eugenics derives from the Greek words Eu (good) and Genis (born) and was coined by Sir Francis Galton in 1883. He theorized that among society, lived 2 groups of people. Those who from birth possessed greater social and genetic worth, were rich and prosperous, and those with less social and genetic worth, were poor and criminal. However the physical traits to predetermine to which category people fit meant different things to many different people. Many historians will say that eugenics is a thing of the past and that it ended with World War II. I on the other hand tend to see and realize that the idea is still rampant among us, in a more subtle way.

When you watch TV commercials what do you see, beside garbage being pushed upon you? Beautiful people, perfect faces, slim bodies, great firm breasts for women, chiseled abs for men, straight hair, wide clear eyes, big white teeth smiles, endless happiness and sexiness and eternal youth. Am right ain’t I? It also bothers you. Deep down you start thinking that something is wrong with your appearance, so you run to the mall to buy the product that will make you look like all of the above. You spend large amounts of money to make yourself “feel” good, because after all, that’s what the TV commercial promised. It has come down to the point where it’s not about the product being sold anymore. The above description could suite any commercial including a Kellogg kid’s cereal. What you are being sold my friend is an image and an ideal. Maybe the irresponsible marketing morons behind these aren’t aware of it, but they have created a eugenic monster.

The human mind is as elastic and malleable as you want it to be. For some it’s harder and it takes longer to convert but if submitted to the same message over and over, it will crack. Over the years, Western society has come to obsess with the ideal look, inspired by all TV ads and newspaper magazines. It has become a criteria to evaluate and judge a person upon their physical traits. When someone is closer to the ideal, they get promoted easier, it will be said that the person is dynamic and competent. Whereas an “ugly” person will be held back from opportunities and judged more severely eventhough she or he is productive. Just think of the trailer trash whore Paris Hilton. Being elevated to the rank of star and being adored, eventhough she has never done anything special like being an artist at least.

These are the values transmitted to the future generations. Kids are being told and showed that to succeed in life socially, one must possess the chosen criterias. In the same manner Nazis were choosing blue eyes and blond hair, this society is basing “beauty” selection on genetic traits, casting and shunning aside the imperfects. In Quebec, a controversial psychiatrist by the name of doctor Mailloux was elevated to the rank of professor know-it-all by the garbage French speaking medias. In 2007, he publicly said on TV that Blacks were scientifically shown to be dumber than White people. He got away with this racist and hate-crime proclamation next to no impunity under pretense of freedom of speech. Perhaps he was saying aloud what everyone else was already thinking, that the Blacks were poor and criminal because of genetic disposition, and not the result of social exclusion and dark history.
