Archos Releases $ 279 80 G9 and $ 349 101 G9 with Honeycomb and Android Market, World Rejoice.

From Paris, a good ol’ budget tablet and PMP manufacturer Archos has just introduced two tablets that will actually have a stock Android 3.1 and the Android Market. This is a far cry from Archos’ history, when people with Archos’ tablets/PMPs had to either hack or use AppsLib (about 40,000 apps strong). First of the pair, Archos 80 G9, will have 1024 by 768 resolution in a compact 8-inch screen and will include Seagate 250GB hard drive for storage, although it’s not known how the hard drive may impact the battery life considering the hard drive is originally built for laptops. Archos 101 G9 will have 1280 by 800 resolution and will also include Seagate 250GB hard drive. Both will have an ability to decode 1080p video (a dig at Tegra 2) and feature a dual-core 1.5 GHz OMAP 4 processor which, according to Anandtech, beats Tegra 2 and Exynos in most tasks. They will also feature a HDMI slot and USB slot for plugging in the Archos G9 3G stick ($ 49 extra), although we assume that anything from USB keyboard to mouse will work with some software hack. Archos is releasing those tablets by the end of September, and 8-inch will cost $ 279 while 10.1-inch version will cost $ 349. Of course, given the lack of first-party support for past Archos’ tablets and PMPs, it’s still doubtful that Archos will update those two tablets to Ice Cream Sandwich this fall. However, Ice Cream Sandwich or not, Archos just has introduced two solid tablets that should make other tablet manufacturers weep and make tablets even more accessible than ever. Amazon, your move.
