NASA warns: Solar storms expected to shake Earth in 2013

As detected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, the future occurrence of a devastating space storm is possible. Such solar storms occur once every hundred years, causing widespread destruction on earth. It seems that the biblical prophecies will hold well in their depictions. As per NASA resources, the Sun storm is believed to be in full swing in year 2013. In addition to this, if there happens to be a strong sun-flare, it could knock out electricity, affect water supply, electronic devices at work and home and play havoc with the internet connection. The media all over the world is curious to gather more information about the same but the news is not officially revealed to the public yet. The twin Voyager I and II spacecraft which helped discovering Jupiter and Saturn, has its mission extended to characterize the outer limit of the Sun’s magnetic field and the outward flow of solar wind.

According to astrophysicist Alexei Dmitriev, the twin satellite system was able to track a gradual movement of the Sun and the entire solar system into an interstellar energy cloud. This interstellar energy cloud, as its name suggests, will excite the surfaces of planets and stars, affecting Sun the most. As it will continue to charge the sun, the amount of energy that the sun normally delivers, will exceed its limit. This will, in turn, lead to plasma erupts which will ultimately interact with earth’s magnetic field inducing geomagnetic current. Power grids are most vulnerable to geomagnetic induced current. The current knocks out power, messes with GPS and sets places on fire.

The expected solar flare is said to be the biggest energy storm ever and project designers are taking steps to create shields to strengthen the power grids. The catastrophe caused by Sun storms would affect stock markets and power systems so badly that it would lead to a permanent damage. However, if proper safeguarding is ensured, the damage can be minimized. Engineers can temporarily disconnect vulnerable power grids from transformers. This will help protecting specific transformers and thus, avoid blackouts caused by damaged transformers.

A newly developed NASA project known as “Solar Shield” is said to deliver transformer-level prediction using node-to-node forecast. The latest solar storm warning has to be considered seriously for developing safeguarding strategies. Solar storms can cause a global damage including blackouts lasting for several months. The first ever space storm occurred in 1859 which turned the entire sky blood-red and burnt telegraph lines. The latest reported sun flare was rated an X 6.9 because of its high intensity. Scientists all over the world are working hard on projects that would provide protection against sun flares through prediction. Additionally, many satellite and power companies are trying their best to develop alternatives. An alternative could be to create technologies that can withstand excessive load caused by plasma erupts from the sun that interferes with the magnetosphere.

With such clear evidences from different sources, the next solar maximum is becoming highly probabilistic. Scientists are expected to create better safeguard shield and measures before the world runs into a global doom in 2013.
