3DOn ARchitecture Augmented Reality App for iPhone and iPad
3DOn Ltd released new app called “3DOn ARchitecture” app designed for both iPhone and iPad, is an augmented reality app for architects. It allows you to upload your SketchUp models and view them on an iPhone or an iPad in three different modes. Preview mode lets you overlay your model onto a photograph of your site. Walk mode lets you explore your model inside and out, and On-site mode lets you view your model in situ–in real time.
It can be used to speed up the planning process by offering a unique insight to the future and can help to identify potential costly issues at an early stage.
“For the first time architects, planners and other building professionals can see how their proposals will look in true context. Our product uses the increasingly popular Augmented Reality concept to place 3D models in position using GPS data supplied by you,” reads the app description.
Key features: Submit your model currently only KMZ format to 3DOn website, then use these modes to check and explore your model on your iPhone or iPad:
- Preview mode – See your model and simply use your finger to move the model around in 3D. You can also create a photo montage yourself by using location photographs on your device and place your model over the top of them. Then take a screenshot and save to your photo roll to print or send on.
- ‘Walk’ mode – where you can use the phones geographical features to explore the model by using your phone as a viewer, tip up and view the guttering, tip down and view the flooring!
- ‘On Site’ mode – where your models geographical location is used to locate it on site, so you can drive to site and actually see the model in location through your device (subject to the platforms GPS accuracy)
Imagine seeing your building as though it’s already there. Not only can you view your designs in real time from any location you choose through your iPhone screen, you can record and capture the imagery for future use.
