It seems like animated avatars for BBM have been all the rave lately; especially with the recent surge of apps that give you the ability to make your own avatars. One of the latest apps to hit the scene is SFlix by Max Solution. With SFlix you have the ability to make and share you avatars, which is a new twist to animated avatar creating. What’s great about SFlix-besides being free-is the many options of setting an avatar up as your BBM display picture. They are:

Selecting a series of photos in your gallery
Taking pictures from your BlackBerry device’s camera
Selecting video(s) from you video gallery
Recording video from your BlackBerry device’s camera
Saving picture that another member has created and shared

There are a few great features that really make this app and one is the different ways of getting animated avatars and the social aspect which lets’ you share you avatars that you made. SFlix even has an option where you can “Like” other members animated avatars that they have already created. SFlix recommends that when you use their application that you upload/download over WiFi and not just over your carriers network, and it makes sense. With limited data plans it makes it easy to go over especially if you download or upload quite a few avatars. Also, using WiFi can make it faster to upload/download files.

I’ve been using SFlix since launch and it has been a great app, now of course there are some hiccups from time to time when it comes to creating your avatar, or selecting either photos or videos, but that is expected especially since the app is almost a week old in App World. Another issue I notice that hopefully will be resolved soon is when you want to set up one of the files as your avatar, you have to go to the gallery for set up, it doesn’t automatically change it for you when you select the picture. As a BBM Connected app I would expect that to be standard. However other than that it is an awesome application and I highly recommend SFlix.
