Silicon Valley Startups Get Indian Developers Via Unique Coding Contest

Bangalore based Interview Street is helping Indian developers land jobs in the Silicon Valley.

At a recently concluded coding competition called CodeSprint, over 1300 Indian Engineers among 60,000 from all over the world tried their best to write software code within stipulated time limits. While some projects required blazing speeds & had to be completed within a few hours, other complicated ones had a few days to be compiled.

Those who successfully completed the projects were picked up by 35 top technology startups in the Valley such as Evernote, Rocket Fuel, Quora, Pocket Gems, etc. Though many strive to get into global giants like Microsoft or Google, these startups offers a much wider scope of growth & a chance to work on a very large platform with multiple responsibilities.

The online recruitment industry is slowly undergoing a revolutionary change. The days of old fashioned recruitment are history. Technology companies do not want to rely on people solving problems on a white board. Besides, hunting down & sourcing client is a time-consuming & expensive endeavor. Such contests that are global in nature help companies collate talent that is not only performance driven, but is fast. A while ago Google had organized a hackathon for its Chrome Browser. While the intention may not be same, such a platform entices developers to participate & exhibit their talent. The rest of the recruitment process then becomes fairly simple.

One another hidden advantage is that these start-ups can easily recruit the minimum number of people required at a time. MNCs who hire in thousands via a recruitment drive face a much higher attrition rate. Finally, these comparatively smaller companies face much less political pressure for hiring outside their home country. We only hope Indians who got selected won’t face a problem getting H1-B Visas!
