HoverBar for iPad Review — Mount Your iPad Anywhere
The HoverBar from Mac-only design studio Twelve South is an iPad mount that lets you put your iPad where you want it, whether that’s right next to your screen, under a kitchen counter — wherever. If you are an iMac or Apple Display user, it even mounts nicely to the stand.
If you are already starved for desk space, but would like to keep your iPad handy for viewing documents, making Skype calls, or watching Netflix while you work, the HoverBar is an elegant solution. It would also make a cool mount for putting an iPad in kiosk mode — if you want to dazzle your clients while they sit in your waiting area (or give their kids something to play with while you talk to their parents about boring legal stuff). I might even try using it in the car on our next road trip to keep the girls occupied in the back seat.
The flexible arm is amazingly sturdy. Once you put your iPad in place, it will stay put while you poke and swipe at it. But it’s also easy to adjust the HoverBar just by grabbing your iPad and moving it within the HoverBar’s reach. Installation is a breeze, too, although if you want to move it, you will either have to find the hex key that comes with the HoverBar, or else visit your toolbox.
All in all, the HoverBar is a cool accessory. At $80 on Amazon, it’s not cheap, but if you need to mount an iPad in an odd place — or right next to your monitor — it’s an excellent and elegant option.
