Samsung EAD-R10–What the Galaxy Beam should have been?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Details of the Samsung EAD-R10 pico projector have been circulating over the last couple of days.  It is a small mobile projector similar to those offered by the likes of Optoma and 3M that connects to your mobile device by MHL/HDMI.

It isn’t going to blow you away in terms of the specification or what it can do in comparison to a dedicated larger projector but what it symbolises is a requirement that some people have.

There are many salespeople that carry around laptops and projectors with them to be able to give presentations, although this is decreasing now as more offices have displays etc. available and more people are using smartphones with improved connectivity options.

But, there still remains many scenarios where these display and computing options are not and now more and more can be done on a phone so why not share it from a phone. Even if an office has a projector in it, there are few solutions whereby you can connect a phone to a projector.

The Samsung Galaxy Beam was a phone with a projector built in and whilst it does not have a universal appeal it starts to serve a purpose.  However there are some issues with the device, most specifically, the projector is on the top of the device and you can only ever present from the phone in portrait mode, thus it can become a bit of an issue projecting some content whilst also controlling the phone.

So is this the accessory that the Samsung Galaxy Beam should have been?

The EAD-R10 is a separate accessory that connects via cable which makes it a much more usable solution.  So it is like the Optoma and 3M projectors really, but the big difference I believe here is the brand.  Both Optoma and 3M have had some access but Samsung is a more recognised brand in the mobile space and the pico projector will appeal to many of the Galaxy smartphone range customers not to mention the number of stores who would likely stock it in comparison to the other mentioned brands.

What is more as it is an accessory and not built in the phone design and capabilities are not limited in the way they are with the Beam.  It gives users greater scope.

Feel free to criticise this projector, because the resolution that it projects in (640×360) isn’t great considering on devices like the Note II and S III the output is HD for these devices.

Measuring about the same size of the S3 it is fairly portable and you do have a 20 lumens bulb in this so it is brighter than the Beam’s projector.

However all told this serves a purpose, one that may be small but one that some will find very advantageous in their everyday life.  Please bring this to the UK Samsung!
