Kim Dotcom’s MEGA cloud storage is now up, offers you free 50GB space
Found of MegaUpload, Kim Doctom finally opens the doors to its MEGA cloud storage service last weekend.
MEGA is still in beta but offers users a free 50GB storage which makes Microsoft’s SkyDrive’s 7.5GB and Dropbox’s 2GB free space miniscule in comparison. Paid subscription of MEGA nets users up to 4TB of storage with up to 8TB of bandwidth for those sharing a huge number of files to thousands of people.
At this early stage, MEGA is just your ordinary web-based cloud storage service with an elegant and simple user interface. It does support drag-and-dropping of files though, well at least in Chrome which they say is the best browser to fully experience the service.
Other features are in the pipeline such as mobile integration, sync tools for all major platforms, Windows filesystem mount ala Dropbox which is already undergoing testing, word processing and spreadsheet support ala Google Docs, file encrypted transfers, instant messaging with file attachments, stop and continue, and a whole lot more you can read here.
The service is still hit-and-miss if you try it out right now probably due to the number of users checking it out. It’s also early to tell whether MEGA can unseat Dropbox as the cloud storage of choice for most people but MEGA seems to be doing good on the investor side and the upcoming features sound promising. Oh and the 50GB free storage is just awesome.
