Microsoft’s New Device Hoped To Be The Pioneer of Next Gen PC
Computer makers must pay attention. Microsoft may have redefined the way of making PC. Their latest release, the Surface Pro will probably be the benchmark for the high powered portable PC in the future.
Two key reasons strongly back this statement. The first one is that Microsoft realized that the mechanisms should be set up behind the glass instead of going under the keyboard like the olden days. And the other reason is that the Surface Pro boasts a mainstream processor.
Now let’s look at the competitors. The recent newfangled convertible laptops don’t have detachable displays since all the parts go under the keyboard except Lenovo’s ThinkPad Helix. Also they aren’t as light or thin as other popular tablets. These devices are also prone to mechanical problems. They run on Atom processors and nobody wants netbooks in tablet clothing.
At this year’s CES, Intel seemed more interested with the Ivy Bridge and soon to be released Haswell chips. They want to see more portables with their chips tucked in behind their glasses.
The Surface Pro runs on the 3rd gen core Ivy Bridge processor. So, the battery life will be a little disappointing. But soon with the upcoming Haswell chips the situation would improve. A portable running on an actual processor with 6 hour battery life would be something to die for.
