HP unveils its first ever Chrome OS, the Pavilion 14 Chromebook

It was surprising to note that in the previous week, HP let slip, in its own site, the 14 inch Chromebook. HP till now does not have a chrome based OS system and it was not a much popular one too to credit an entry. But nevertheless, HP has come out with the Pavilion 14 Chromebook. The gadget was supposed to be available from February 17, but amazingly it is on sale now, at $330.

The price tag is definitely more, when compared to a Chromebook of Samsung, which is available at $249, and the C7 of Acer, which is priced at $199. Though the features it promises are similar to Acer’s, the design looks more refined. It also comes with an Intel Celeron 847 processor of 1.1GHz and has 2GB of RAM. This signifies a better performance than the Samsung model, which is notorious for its slow performance due to the low powered ARM processor in it.

The model has a storage capacity of 16GB and sports a 1366×768 display screen. And there is a free 100GB Google Drive space, which is offered only for the first two years.

The weight of the 14 inch model is 4 pounds, which makes it the largest and heaviest chromebook at present. The 0.8 inch chassis facilitates more ports like HDMI output, 3 USB 2 sockets and it also comes equipped with an SD reader. The device also has an Ethernet socket, which is not available even with the latest model of Samsung Chromebook, as the feature has been removed.

Though the Panasonic version is bigger, the main drawback is the battery, which has four hours and 15 minutes duration of lifetime, which is much less than the Samsung version of Chromebook. But the smart design and the faster performance will probably make it more favorable for users looking to purchase a Chromebook.
