Sony launches its latest full-frame camera line
Sony unveiled three new models ranging from full-frame digital cameras to a full-frame, full HD camcorder.
The Sony RX1 is the world’s first 35mm full-frame compact camera. It has a 24.3-megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor, a bright Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* f/2.0 35mm fixed focal length lens, and a hi-fi BIONZ image processor. You’ll get high-end DSLR-quality photos on a small package.
The latest from the DSLR line (actually DSLT) is the Sony a99 which was launched last year. Like the RX1, the a99 has a 24.3-megapixel, 35mm full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor. It has the Translucent Mirror Technology, which amazingly replaces the swinging mirror of DSLRs with a stationary translucent mirror that directs light to the auto-focus sensor and image sensor. Sounds too technical but what it really does is that it improves subject tracking and focusing precision. Another key feature is the XGA OLED Tru-Finder that allows you to adjust your viewfinder for clearer and precise focusing. According to Sony, “It eliminates the guesswork in achieving your vision”. What you see, is what you get.
The third new update, this time coming from the Handycam line is the Sony NEX-VG900. Packed with the same full-frame features of the RX1 and a99, the NEX-VG900 is for digital moviemakers and cinematographers. It has a 16.1-megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS image sensor, a Quad Capsule Spatial Array Microphone for high-quality stereo (5.1 channel sound), and a progressive recording capability. You can also pair it with the optional adaptor so you can use your A-mount lenses.
