What Antarctica Looks Like Without Ice Revealed In New Map

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Scientists at the British Antarctic Survey have been working with a host of international collaborators to present the most detailed map yet of Antarctica’s landmass. Bedmap2 reveals a landscape of mountain ranges and plains cut by gorges and valleys much deeper than previously seen.

In addition, the map allows scientists to analyse, in much greater detail, the bed below the Antarctic ice sheet.

A different view: Antarctica without the iceSeveral features of the bed have been revealed for the first time including a new deepest point. The bed under the Byrd Glacier in Victoria Land is 2,870 metres below sea level making it the lowest point on any of the Earth’s continental plates.

The map was compiled using datasets collected from radio echo sounding measurements, seismic techniques, satellite readings and cartographic data.

A number of key statistics emerge;
The volume of ice in Antarctica is 4.6% greater than previously thought
The mean bed depth of Antarctica, at 95 metres, is 60 m lower than estimated
The volume of ice that is grounded with a bed below sea level is 23% greater than originally thought meaning there is a larger volume of ice that is susceptible to rapid melting. The ice that rests just below sea level is vulnerable to warming from ocean currents
The total potential contribution to global sea level rise from Antarctica is 58 metres, similar to previous estimates but a much more accurate measurement
The new deepest point, under Byrd Glacier, is around 400 metres deeper than the previously identified deepest point

Peter Fretwell, from the British Antarctic Survey, says: ”The new Bedmap shows, with unprecedented detail, the bedrock beneath the ice sheets of Antarctica. Before we had a regional overview of the topography, but this new map, with its much higher resolution, shows the landscape itself; a complex landscape of mountains, hills and rolling plains, dissected by valleys troughs and deep gorges.”

Dr Hamish Pritchard, co-lead author of the study, says: “The Bedmap2 project is about more than making a map of the landscape. The data we’ve put together on the height and thickness of the ice and the shape of the landscape below are fundamental to modelling the behaviour of the ice sheet in the future. This matters because in some places, ice along the edges of Antarctica is being lost rapidly to the sea, driving up sea level. Knowing how much the sea will rise is of global importance, and these maps are a step towards that goal.”

In most parts of Antarctica the subglacial landscape is visible in much greater detail than was previously available and the improved datacoverage has in many areas revealed the full scale of mountain ranges, valleys, basins and troughs, only fragments of which were previously indicated in local surveys. The derived statistics for Bedmap2 show that the volume of ice contained in the Antarctic ice sheet (27 million km3) and its potential contribution to sea-level rise (58 m) are similar to those of Bedmap1, but the mean thickness of the ice sheet is 4.6% greater, the mean depth of the bed beneath the grounded ice sheet is 72m lower and the area of ice sheet grounded on bed below sea level is increased by 10 %.

Antarctica will always be covered in ice, unless of course invisible Nibiru passes close by & tips us over!

Read Luke 21:25-28 Notice what is written regarding the signs in the heavens, the heavenly bodies being shaken, and the great agitation of the oceans. These things are happening now.

Google: “Huge Media Blackout Regarding Earth and Moon Orbital Changes”

Read Revelation 16:8 and compare to the reports that the earth is now warmer than in the past 11,000 years.

        Then read Isaiah 24:20….

“So heavy is the guilt of it’s rebellion, that it falls, never to rise again”.

God’s Word states that He hung the ‘circle of the earth’ upon nothing….so the passage does not refer to the earth falling out of the heavens….but falling…..wobbling like a drunk man, then falling over on it’s side.

Those who belong to Christ are at this time, Standing Up and Lifting Up their heads, as commanded by Christ Himself….for our redemption draws near.

well either Antarctica or the artic should be making an ice sheet soon (ice age) with the water levels rising the way they are we will have a super cooling event which will cause an ice sheet to expand out

Thanks for some real news Alton

        To Alton.
Yes u are on point with ur conclusions.
        all due To global warming.

Whilst I am sceptical of the hollow earth theory, I found that this was an interesting observation. The lowest point on earth is at the bottom of something named after Admiral Byrd??

    • BetweentheLines

Antarctica will not forever be covered by ice, like it was once ice free it will be again.
The lowest point is only the lowest because of the ice, if the ice melts the land will rise, and perhaps a new highest Mountain on Earth will eventually appear.
Like many other places on Earth the USA included, the land is still rising after the last ice age, Great Britain for instance is tipping at one end and lowering at the other because of this rise, eventually rising evenly as time moves on.
It would be interesting to compare part of this map, to the Ancient map refuted to be of the same Continent, and without the ice, and if that map turns out to be correct, then where did it come from, who made it, and when was it drawn to be ice free?
      A huge mystery in itself.

58 meters? I’m going to buy some ocean front property in Montana and the Appalachians. And kiss England good-bye. No more Piers Morgan!

All british studies are suspect. They mostly embelish.

its quite colourful under all that snow then..

Conf, the earth is always in a tipping mode. Because of our winter and summer solstaces It tips a little bit more south every year and doesn’t tip all the way back. Without the tipping, the equator would spread outwards until the earth is torn apart. Why do you think that the Continents have shifted through the millions of years? Why do you think we have earth quakes? To shift the continental plates and balance the earths rotation.

    • Pix

The last time there was no ice at all was about 50 million years ago.

Earths climate shows a definate series of warmer and colder periods, millions of years long in duration. Very much showing a fibonacci scale pattern of ripples on waves on swells. We are currently at the end of an interglacial period within an ice age. Which is why I always laugh at the global warming fear mongerers… warmer when your’e in an ice age would be excellent news.

I’m sure there are seeds from the flora that used to thrive there that are frozen and viable today.
