Unofficial app brings Gmail to Windows Phone

There’s now an unofficial app that brings the Gmail interface to your Windows Phone handset. It’s reportedly based off the same code base as the official Gmail iOS app, so the experience shouldn’t be all that different to what an official version of Gmail for Windows Phone would offer .

The free version of the app, which is designed by EcoMerc, comes with a single advert that can be removed for a reasonable £0.79. However, it doesn’t just remove the advert, but adds push notification functionality. The paid for version of the app is available here.

In order to avoid confusion we should mention that this app isn’t the new version of Gmail that is in the process of rolling out for Android. However, this shouldn’t stop you from giving it a try if you’re a Gmail user on Windows Phone – it’ll be much better than plugging your details into the Outlook app.

Windows Phone Central has praised the new unofficial gmail app, stating that it runs well and fits in nicely with the Windows Phone design:

The app is compatible with both Windows Phone 7.x and 8 handsets.
