In a move to provide all the latest information on its rescue operations in flood-ravaged Uttarakhand, the Indian Army has launched a website called as ‘suryahopes.in‘. The website gives minute to minute update on Army operations across Uttarakhand. It is for the first time the army has come out with a website for a relief operation.

The website contains list of rescued persons, area wise helpline numbers and details of the locations where rescue efforts are going on. It also boasts of location wise data of people stranded at various places and latest news about flood victims.

Furthermore, the suryahopes.in provides links to Uttarakhand government web site and Google sites giving information on flood affected people. The website says that the content is updated on a regular basis and the data has been obtained from state administration and from troops deployed in the disaster area. The data link is also duplicated on www.indianarmy.gov.in.

The tab ‘Find your loved one‘ did not display any result and said that the data is being updated when I checked the website. However, there is an exhaustive list of evacuated person on the site. The photo gallery has mix photos of rescue operations, people evacuated and army chiefs. At the time of writing this article, the website showcased a ticker on the homepage saying that 532 victims form Harsil have been evacuated. It also said that Army has so far evacuated more than 33,000 people since June 17.

Google also launched a ‘Person Finder’ app and a Crisis Map to aid the rescue operations in Uttarakhand.
